Pippo Inzaghi admires Benevento 'attitude'

Pippo Inzaghi ‘appreciated the mentality’ of newly-promoted Benevento for their comeback from 2-0 down to beat Sampdoria 3-2.

Le Streghe dominated Serie B last season, winning the title with a 20-point advantage, and now got off to a stunning Serie A start.

They had been 2-0 down at Marassi, although SuperPippo still found reason to be content by checking on his brother.

Ranieri: 'Benevento deserved the points'

Claudio Ranieri reveals he complimented Pippo Inzaghi after Benevento’s 3-2 comeback victory over Sampdoria. ‘It was fully deserved.’

Samp had taken a comfortable early lead through Fabio Quagliarella and Omar Colley, but fell apart after the restart.

“We were 2-0 up and should’ve been able to control the game, but we conceded in a chaotic situation and that revived Benevento,” Ranieri told Sky Sport Italia.

Lazio and Benevento friendly stalemate

Lazio and Benevento drew 0-0 in their pre-season friendly, with no winners between brother coaches Simone and Pippo Inzaghi.

They will meet again in Serie A this season, but both their Week 1 fixtures were postponed to September 30.

That is because Lazio’s opponents Atalanta and Benevento’s rivals Inter finished their 2019-20 seasons late due to the Champions League and Europa League Final Eight participation.

Benevento begin pre-season training

The 2020-21 season has already begun for Serie A new boys Benevento, as coach Pippo Inzaghi and his squad arrived for pre-season training.

The club will stay in Seefeld, Tirol, from today until August 30.

Benevento were promoted from Serie B after shattering records for the second division, with 26 wins, eight draws and only four defeats.

They ended up on 86 points, 19 clear of second-placed Crotone.

Pippo Inzaghi hailed Benevento for their ‘historic’ domination of the Serie B season, shattering records on their way to promotion. ‘I never expected this.’

Le Streghe booked their spot in the 2020-21 Serie A season this evening thanks to a 1-0 win over Juve Stabia, despite seeing Luca Caldirola sent off after just 24 minutes.

They achieved it with a record 77 points, with seven rounds to go, a massive 24 points ahead of the chasing pack.

Benevento promoted into Serie A!

Pippo Inzaghi’s Benevento are the first team promoted to Serie A for the 2020-21 season, matching a record set by Ascoli in 1977-78 by doing so with seven games to spare.

Le Streghe – The Witches – have dominated the Serie B tournament from start to finish and secured their spot with a 24-point lead from the chasing pack.

They have won 23 games, drawn seven and lost only one, scoring 56 goals and conceding just 15 in 31 rounds.

Pippo: 'Ronaldo makes me look bad'

Benevento coach Filippo Inzaghi always cared for his own goalscoring records and confessed that Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo makes him angry.

The 46-year-old retired in 2012 after having won the World Cup and two Champions League crowns after stints at Parma, Juventus and Milan he finished on 70 goals in 115 games in the European Cups.

Ronaldo has played 177 games including the qualifiers in the early stage of his career and has bagged 131 goals in the process, with Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi on 117 in 145 matches.
