Juventus changes in Lyon

Juventus are expected to start Patrice Evra and Mario Lemina in an unusual 3-5-2 hybrid formation against Olympique Lyonnais.

The Champions League clash kicks off in Lyon tonight at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

Some decisions are foisted upon Max Allegri, as Giorgio Chiellini, Daniele Rugani, Claudio Marchisio, Marko Pjaca and Kwadwo Asamoah are out injured, while Stephan Lichtsteiner is cup-tied.

It was predicted he would use Medhi Benatia as a left-sided centre-back, with Hernanes pulling the midfield strings.

Pjanic the Apprentice

A footballer with the soul of an artist, Mina Rzouki looks at what Miralem Pjanic has learned as he returns to face Lyon.

Miralem Pjanic comes full circle on Tuesday when Juventus visit Olympique Lyonnais, the club where he took his first big step up the career ladder.

It was in the OL jersey as an 18-year-old that he stayed behind to study Juninho Pernambucano’s free kicks in training and practice with the master. Even making only five starts that first season, you can’t buy an apprenticeship like that.

Inter had Lacazette lined up

It’s reported Inter had already agreed terms with Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in case they sold Mauro Icardi to Napoli.

The Partenopei made a very strong play for Icardi over the summer after losing Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus.

In the end, the offer of €60m plus bonuses was rejected and Icardi is expected to sign a new contract at San Siro.

However, Calciomercato.it claim Inter had already worked out a Plan B, agreeing terms with 25-year-old Lacazette.

Lyon, Malaga, Villarreal want Iturbe

Olympique Lyonnais, Malaga and Villarreal have asked Roma to take Juan Manuel Iturbe on loan.

The 23-year-old Paraguay international spent last season on loan at Bournemouth with an option to buy, but he barely set foot on the pitch.

Luciano Spalletti tried to evaluate Iturbe over the summer, but he did not sufficiently impress.

Now L’Equipe claim Lyon have made an offer to take Iturbe on loan this season.

The French side join the race, as there are also proposals from Spain via Villarreal and above all Malaga.
