Eusebio Di Francesco confirms Gregoire Defrel is almost a Roma player and reveals the club are on the lookout for a new left-back.

Reports on Tuesday evening emerged that Roma had agreed a €20m deal for Defrel, and Di Francesco admitted the striker was close to joining the Giallorossi, while reinforcements were lined up for another problem position.

“On Defrel, I can say that it’s getting closer, but it’s not done yet,” he said at a Press conference.

Defrel to Roma within 24 hours

Gregoire Defrel should be a Roma player tonight or tomorrow, as Sassuolo reportedly accept a loan with obligation to buy.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the negotiations have finally reached a positive conclusion.

The price-tag was already decided, around €20m plus bonuses, but the method of payment was up for debate.

It’s believed the clubs have now agreed to make the move technically a loan with obligation to pay at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old can play as a centre-forward, a support striker or on the left wing.

Bucchi: 'Defrel can leave Sassuolo'

Roma discussing Defrel payment

Roma are close to Gregoire Defrel, but it’s believed discussions over the method of payment are slowing down a deal with Sassuolo.

It was revealed yesterday that the Giallorossi were on the verge of signing the Frenchman, who worked with Coach Eusebio Di Francesco during his time at Mapei Stadium.

There were even suggestions that a medical could be imminent, but so far there has been no announcement.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio’s website, the delay is because the two clubs are trying to decide what structure the payment should take.

Defrel close to Roma

Roma are reportedly very close to a deal for Sassuolo forward Gregoire Defrel.

The Giallorossi need attacking reinforcements, as Mohamed Salah has been sold to Liverpool.

Defrel worked with new Coach Eusebio Di Francesco during his time at Mapei Stadium, and has been linked with a move to the capital since January.

Now Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that negotiations are down to the final details, meaning the 26-year-old could take his medicals in the coming days.

Sassuolo react to Berardi, Defrel rumours

Sassuolo say they will listen to offers for Domenico Berardi and that Roma “know our demands” for Gregoire Defrel.

Berardi and Defrel have been heavily linked with Roma, who appointed former Sassuolo boss Eusebio Di Francesco earlier in the summer, but CEO Giovanni Carnevali made it clear the Neroverdi would not be held to ransom over the pair.

“We’d like Berardi, Defrel and Acerbi to stay, but their desire, enthusiasm and belief in the project is very important to us,” he told Corriere dello Sport.
