Vidal brace on Lapadula debut

Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal scored a brace in Chile’s 2-0 victory against Peru, on the day Gianluca Lapadula made his debut.

Vidal was the undoubted star of the show in last night’s 2022 World Cup qualifier in Santiago de Chile.

He opened the scoring with an absolute screamer from a good 30 metres out into the far top corner, which left the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

Vidal then added a second just before half-time.

Lapadula receives Peru call-up

Benevento striker Gianluca Lapadula will receive his first call-up to play for Peru, facing Chile and Argentina next month.

The 30-year-old forward was born in Turin to an Italian father and Peruvian mother.

As he has only international football for Italy in a friendly, he is available to represent Peru.

His lone Italy cap was in a May 2017 friendly against San Marino, which saw him score a hat-trick.

Peru coach Ricardo Garcia confirmed to Expreso that Lapadula will be in the squad to face Chile on November 13 and Argentina on November 17.

Lapadula all set for Benevento

Gianluca Lapadula will sign for Serie A new boys Benevento next week, claim multiple sources, in a deal worth €4m from Genoa.

Serie A 2019-20 Season Review: Lecce

Fabio Liverani deserves credit for sticking to his football philosophy and fighting to the bitter end in pure Lecce style, writes Susy Campanale.

Relegated with honour

The vast majority of neutrals were cheering on Lecce to cause a final day of the season turnaround and secure their Serie A safety. It was nothing against Genoa, of course, but the Salentini brought so much entertainment and spirit to their brief sojourn in the top flight.

Mancosu ready to keep Lecce in Serie A

Captain Marco Mancosu has claimed he is preparing to help Lecce stay in Serie A and then wants to discuss a new contract with the club.

Mancosu has been a key member under coach Fabio Liverani and the 31-year-old is the leading goalscorer at Via del Mare with eight, one more than striker Gianluca Lapadula.

Lecce sit third to bottom, on par with Genoa on the last safe spot in the League, and Mancosu is determined to get back on track when football resumes but doesn’t want the governing bodies to change the rules.
