Romagnoli banned for one game

Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli has been banned for only one game, despite his straight red card at Torino.

Romagnoli was dismissed for sarcastically applauding Marco Guida towards the end of Milan’s 2-0 defeat on Sunday.

There had been talk of at least a two-match ban for the captain, but the FIGC ruled on Tuesday that he would only miss the Rossoneri’s next game against Bologna.

Ankle damage for Samir

Udinese defender Samir could be out for some time after sustaining ankle ligament damage, but Kevin Lasagna has recovered.

The Friulani released a statement from their medical staff giving updates on the various injured players.

Samir was stretchered off during Saturday’s victory over Roma after an awkward fall and tests have now confirmed there is a right ankle sprain with ligament damage.

No surgery seems to be on the cards, but it’s not clear how long he’ll be out for.

Napoli in for Samir

Napoli are reportedly interested in Udinese’s Samir, as Faouzi Ghoulam is likely to leave in the summer.

The Algerian left-back is out of contract in the summer of 2018, and it seems unlikely that he’ll sign a new contract with the Partenopei.

Sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has therefore been evaluating potential replacements, and Antonio Barreca of Torino is high on the shortlist.

However, the 22-year-old is under contract until 2021 and the Granata would ask for at least €18m.

Season over for Samir

Udinese confirmed the season is over for defender Samir after he required keyhole knee surgery.

The 22-year-old Brazilian centre-back went off during Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Genoa.

A statement from the club announced that today’s tests at the Villa Stuart clinic found the need for keyhole surgery to remove cartilage from the meniscus.

The good news is that the ligaments in his left knee were not affected by the sprain, but his season is over nonetheless.

Udinese: ‘Not just Inter on Samir…’

Udinese sporting director Nereo Bonato confirms Inter interest in Samir - “all the big clubs are following him”.

It was reported this afternoon that the Nerazzurri are considering the Brazilian as a cheaper alternative to Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez, as they don’t want to pay the Swiss international’s €22m release clause.

“He’s a player who’s doing very well, which will put him in the shop window,” Bonato told FCInterNews.

Official: Verona sign Samir

Hellas Verona have officially signed defender Samir Caetano de Souza Santos on loan from Granada.

The Brazilian has already passed his medical and will be available from next week, as first he needs to sort out some red tape issues.

The 21-year-old is technically owned by Udinese, who bought him from Flamengo for €4m last week.

Spanish side Granada and Udinese are both owned by the same patrons, the Pozzo family, so regularly move players between the clubs.
