Percassi: 'Atalanta bluff on Gasperini!'

Atalanta President Antonio Percassi revealed Gian Piero Gasperini’s future in Bergamo was never in doubt. “I was bluffing!”

Atalanta want Lazzari and Petagna

Atalanta have asked SPAL for wing-back Manuel Lazzari and could even bring Andrea Petagna back to Bergamo, claim Sky Sport Italia.

Gian Piero Gasperini committed his future to the Orobici after their Champions League qualification, finishing third in Serie A and reaching the Coppa Italia Final.

He only agreed to remain if the squad was reinforced and President Antonio Percassi is already hard at work.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Atalanta have asked SPAL about the availability of Lazzari.

In praise of SPAL and Semplici

While Atalanta grabbed all the headlines and plaudits, Elio Salerno argues Leonardo Semplici’s SPAL deserve more credit for an incredible story.

Leonardo Semplici has worked wonders at SPAL and what he has achieved can be seen as a minor miracle in the shadow of Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta.

Semplici was appointed in December 2014 with the club struggling in the third division and has since played a pivotal role in helping turn their fortunes around.

Promotion to Serie B followed his first full season in charge and then at the first attempt they achieved what was deemed unthinkable, a dramatic promotion to Serie A for the first time in 49 years.

Petagna: Milan broke promises

Andrea Petagna claims Milan broke ‘promises’ when they re-signed Alessandro Matri in 2013. “Like a child who had their dream taken from them, I cried.”

Petagna began his career at Milan and looked destined for a first-team berth at San Siro, but he was forced to join Sampdoria late in the summer 2013 transfer window after they bought back Matri.

“Milan are a family for me, it’s the team where I grew up,” the 23-year-old told DAZN ahead of Sunday’s Serie A clash between SPAL and his formative club.

Petagna 'wanted by Leicester & Atleti'

Leicester City and Atletico Madrid are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing SPAL striker Andrea Petagna this summer.

Nuova Ferrara writes emissaries from both sides have been tracking Petagna, as well as those from Besiktas, Eintracht Frankfurt and an unnamed Russian outfit.

There has even been talk of interest from Champions League semi-finalists Tottenham Hotspur, although this is not confirmed.

The former Atalanta targetman has enjoyed his best season in front of goal this season, scoring 15 times in 33 games.

SPAL ruin Ranieri's Roma start

The Claudio Ranieri effect has already worn off, as Roma were beaten 2-1 by a SPAL side who hadn’t won at home for six months.

The Spallini’s last Serie A success at the Stadio Mazza was back on September 17, but they broke that drought and managed to beat Roma both home and away this season for the first time since 1965-66.

Brozovic and Miranda injured

Joao Miranda will need surgery to reduce a fractured nose, while Marcelo Brozovic is in doubt against Eintracht and Milan with a muscular issue.

The Nerazzurri earned a 2-0 victory over SPAL at San Siro this afternoon, but it came at a cost.

Miranda was caught in the face by a flailing Andrea Petagna arm in the opening minutes and went off at half-time after receiving treatment several times.

Tests have now shown Miranda sustained a fractured nose with dislocated septum.

SPAL beaten by Viola and VAR

VAR reached an historic milestone, as it was used to disallow SPAL’s goal for 2-1 up and instead give Fiorentina a penalty in their 4-1 victory.
