Gomez: 'Lichtsteiner red card'

Papu Gomez was “proud” of Atalanta for holding Juventus 2-2, but wanted Stephan Lichtsteiner sent off. “He smashed me in the face!”

The Orobici fought back from 2-0 down in Bergamo and saw Etrit Berisha save a late Paulo Dybala penalty.

“I think there are few teams able to cause Juventus this much trouble and we are among them,” Papu told Mediaset Premium.

Lyon know Atalanta now

Olympique Lyonnais had never heard of Papu Gomez or Atalanta, but the complacent French giants were given a crash course, writes Billy Wilkinson.

A draw at Stade de Lyon has put Atalanta in a position they most likely didn’t think they’d be in – they’re top of their Europa League group after two games. The Bergamo based club were dealt a ‘group of death’ containing Lyon, Everton and Cypriot side Apollon Limassol. However, according to FiveThirtyEight, Atalanta have a 95% chance to advance to the knockout rounds.

Genesio: 'Naive Lyon error'

Lyon Coach Bruno Genesio admits they made “a really naïve mistake” on the Papu Gomez goal, as Atalanta grabbed a 1-1 draw.

Bertrand Traore opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time, on the rebound from yet another Etrit Berisha save, but Gomez blasted his touched-on free kick through the wall.

“We had a good game, but there are some regrets,” said Genesio in his Press conference.
