Mazzarri: 'Torino extra training'

Walter Mazzarri has given Torino extra training to deal with Atalanta, but assures Simone Verdi “just needs a spark” to regain confidence.

“Too often this season we have dropped off towards the end of games, so we trained extra hard and hope to avoid dropping more important points due to late errors,” said the coach in his press conference.

Mazzarri: 'Verdi must show respect'

Torino beat Bologna 1-0, but coach Walter Mazzarri was extremely irritable, warning Simone Verdi will be dropped if he “doesn’t show respect.”

The tactician was visibly irked during the post-match interview with Sky Sport Italia and exchanged some tense words with pundit Gianluca Marocchi.

“I tip my hat to Sinisa Mihajlovic and his collaborators, because Bologna are an impressive team and caused us a lot of problems today,” started Mazzarri.

'Toro ready to renew Mazzarri'

Torino President Urbano Cairo says ‘it’s time for Walter Mazzarri’s contract to be renewed’ and that fielding Italian players is ‘very important’ for Serie A clubs.

Cairo’s remarks come after it was reported Torino were ready to extend Mazzarri’s contract until 2023 after his work in establishing the Granata as a top-six contender.

Verdi eyes Italy return

Simone Verdi is eyeing a return to the Italy squad after being unveiled as a Torino player for the second time but admits ‘I need to get back into form.’

Verdi completed a €23m move back to Torino just minutes before the transfer window closed on Monday, and the former Napoli winger thanked them for their ‘huge effort’ to sign him.

“Negotiations were very long and at one point, I also thought they wouldn’t materialise,” he said at his official presentation on Friday.

Verdi 'can't wait' for Torino

Torino new boys Simone Verdi says ‘I can’t wait to go out on the pitch with this shirt’ after completing his return from Napoli. 

Toro just about got a €3m loan deal for Verdi with €20m obligation to buy over the line on deadline day, and the forward is delighted to be back at the club.

“Hello everyone, I'm so happy to be back,” he said in a video on the Granata’s official Twitter account.

“Now I can’t wait to go out on the pitch with this shirt. Forza Toro always!”

'Verdi a gift for Torino fans'

Torino President Urbano Cairo says his club’s deadline-day deal for Simone Verdi is ‘a gift for myself, the Coach and the fans’.

Torino left it late to bring in Verdi from Napoli on Monday evening as the €25m transfer was signed off just minutes before the 21:00 BST cut-off point.

“I’m very happy, he was our first choice and we’d always wanted him,” Cairo told Tuttomercatoweb.
