Mancini: Can't ignore Quagliarella

Italy CT Roberto Mancini has admitted that ‘I couldn’t not call up’ Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella, even if he is ‘getting old’.

Quagliarella is in line to make his first appearance for Italy in eight years against Finland or Liechtensten over the next fortnight, but some have focused on his 36 years of age than his 21 goals for Samp this season…

“Inter had a good game, an excellent match,” Mancini told Domenica Sportiva, referring to the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday.

Italy: Pavoletti & Quag in, Balotelli out

Leonardo Spinazzola, Leonardo Pavoletti and Fabio Quagliarella are all in Italy’s first squad of 2019, but Mario Balotelli and Andrea Belotti miss out.

Quagliarella was called up for Italy’s training camp last month and is in an Azzurri squad for the first time since October 2015, while his last cap came five years before that.

However, Pavoletti is preferred to Balotelli and Belotti, the striker keeping his place after scoring 12 times for a struggling Cagliari this season.

Ankle injury for Manolas

Roma are holding their breath after Kostas Manolas appeared to sprain his ankle while playing for Greece.

The defender started this evening’s Nations League match against Finland in Athens.

However, he went down clutching his right ankle in clear pain during the first half and had to be replaced.

Initial reports suggest it is a sprain, although more tests are required to ascertain the extent of the damage.

Roma have a Serie A trip to Udinese coming up next week, then Real Madrid in the Champions League and a showdown with Inter.
