Immobile's Italy grind to a halt

Ciro Immobile has fired blanks in his last nine Italy games, but statistically his negative influence seems to spread across to the team.

The Euro 2020 qualifying campaign kicks off this evening at 19.45 GMT against Finland.

Lazio striker Immobile is expected to lead the line with support from Moise Kean and Federico Bernardeschi.

If he were to find the net, it’d be Immobile’s first goal for Italy since a header to beat Israel 1-0 on September 5, 2017.

The Neapolitan has failed to score in his last nine Azzurri appearances.

Azzurri have a goals problem

The biggest problem Italy need to confront is with goals, not scoring more than once in a competitive match since June 2017.

The Azzurri begin their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign at 19.45 GMT against Finland in Udine.

They are in Group J along with Liechtenstein, Armenia and Bosnia.

Roberto Mancini’s men have struggled to find the net in recent months and it is a problem that stretches well beyond his tenure.

Quagliarella can make Italy history

Fabio Quagliarella could end his Italy exile 3,048 days after his last appearance and become the oldest ever player to score for the Azzurri.

The Euro 2020 qualifying campaign kicks off this evening at 19.45 GMT against Finland.

Coach Roberto Mancini called in current Serie A Capocannoniere Quagliarella, although he is expected to be on the bench with Ciro Immobile starting.

If he does make a cameo, it’ll be the Sampdoria forward’s first cap since November 17, 2010 against Romania.
