Florenzi leaves Italy camp too

Alessandro Florenzi’s calf injury is so serious that he is expected to leave the Italy camp, missing Euro 2020 qualifiers with Finland and Liechtenstein.

The Roma full-back interrupted today’s training session with a muscular problem in his left calf.

According to Sky Sport Italia, it is more serious than previously thought and Florenzi will leave the Italy camp on Friday.

Italy: Kean to replace Chiesa?

Moise Kean is the favourite to replace injured Federico Chiesa in Italy’s trident attack against Finland, with Ciro Immobile and Federico Bernardeschi.

The Euro 2020 qualifier kicks off at 19.45 GMT on Saturday at the Dacia Arena in Udine.

Chiesa left the camp this afternoon, as he cannot recover in time from the muscular problem that had prevented him training for the last two days.

Alessandro Florenzi is also in doubt after pulling up with a left calf issue today.

Italy: Chiesa out, Florenzi doubt

Federico Chiesa has left the Italy training camp due to an injury, while Alessandro Florenzi is also in doubt to face Finland with a calf problem.

The Euro 2020 qualifying campaign kicks off on Saturday against Finland, with Liechtenstein next Tuesday.

Chiesa had tried to shake off the recurring muscular issue that had already forced him out of Fiorentina’s Serie A match against Lazio.

However, today he gave up and was sent back to Florence for treatment.

Barella: Flattered by Radja, but...

Cagliari and Italy starlet Nicolo Barella admits that while he is flattered by Radja Nainggolan comparisons, Luka Modric is the player he most looks up to.

Barella is considered to be Nainggolan’s spiritual heir at Cagliari and has won praise for his performances as a No 10 this season.

“It’s a nice compliment, for me he’s one of the three best midfielders in Serie A,” he said at a Press conference for Italy’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Finland.

Italy 13 years unbeaten

Italy will be out to extend a 13-year unbeaten run when they kick off their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign against Finland on Saturday.

Italy’s last defeat in European Championship qualifying came all the way back in September 2006, when they lost 3-1 to France, the country they beat to win the World Cup three months prior.

Since then the Azzurri have gone 30 qualifiers without a loss, spanning the remainder of Euro 2008 qualifiers, as well as the entire Euro 2012 and Euro 2016 campaigns.

Finland make Italy squad changes

Finland have made a change to the squad for their Euro 2020 qualifier against Italy, losing Jere Uronen to an ankle injury.

The opening clash of Group J will be at the Dacia Arena in Udine on Saturday at 19.30 GMT.

Genk defender Uronen has returned home with an ankle problem, joining Roman Eremenko on the treatment table.

Instead, Coach Markku Kanerva has called in FC Honka left-back Mikko Sumusalo and KuPS right-sided winger Rasmus Karjalainen.

El Shaarawy to start for Italy?

After Federico Chiesa picked up an injury during training, Stephan El Shaarawy is the favourite to replace him for Italy against Finland.

The Azzurri begin their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign in Group J by hosting Finland on Saturday evening, then welcome Liechtenstein on Tuesday March 26.

Chiesa had been expected to start in a 4-3-3 formation, but the Fiorentina forward pulled up with a muscular problem in today’s training session.

Chiesa injury scare for Italy

Federico Chiesa pulled out of training with the Italy squad this afternoon, suffering from a muscular problem, and could be at risk against Finland.

The Azzurri are due to begin their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign with Finland on Saturday evening.

Chiesa was expected to be in the starting XI, but interrupted today’s session early after feeling a twinge in his left thigh.

It’s believed to be more or less the same area that had already caused him problems during Fiorentina’s game with Lazio.

Revealed: Italy's training XI

Italy CT Roberto Mancini tried out a front three of Federico Chiesa, Ciro Immobile and Federico Bernardeschi in training on Monday.

ANSA reports Mancini went with Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal and a back four of Alessandro Florenzi, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Cristiano Biraghi.

A three-man midfield of Nicolo Barella, Jorginho and Marco Verratti would then have supported a Chiesa-Immobile-Bernardeschi trident up top.

Mancini ready to unleash youth

Roberto Mancini says he is ready to unleash Italy’s young players in Euro 2020 qualifying, singling out Nicolo Zaniolo and Moise Kean.

Zaniolo and Kean were called up for Italy’s first two qualifiers against Finland and Liechtenstein, and Mancini made it clear they were just as much about the present as they were the future.

“I’ve called up so many players so I can get to know them all better and assess their condition closely because we made the call-ups on Friday,” explained the Azzurri CT at a Press conference.
