Fiorentina: Pezzella out with sprained ankle

Fiorentina have announced captain German Pezzella will need further tests, as Pol Lirola has injured his ankle and Franck Ribery is out with a muscle strain.

The Viola beat Udinese 3-2 on Sunday, but the Argentine captain was forced off during the first half of the match ‘due to a sprained right ankle’.

“The players condition will be assessed over the next few days,” Fiorentina said about the centre-back in a statement published on their official website.

Pezzella returns as captain for Fiorentina

Fiorentina defender German Pezzella will return as captain when Beppe Iachini’s men face Spezia.

La Nazione reveals the centre-back will be back against Spezia and reclaim the captaincy at Fiorentina.

Federico Chiesa wore the armband in his last match for the Viola against Sampdoria last time, when the Blucerchiati won 2-1 at the Artemio Franchi.

The Italy international has since moved to Juventus and as Pezzella returns to the line-up, the newspaper reveals the captaincy will return to its rightful owner.

Borja Valero 'learns from world-class Ribery'

Fiorentina midfielder Borja Valero said he'll 'try to learn’ from Franck Ribery and vowed ‘to help the club reach its targets’.

Borja Valero returned to Fiorentina after three seasons with Inter and hopes to help the Viola climb the table after a disappointing start to the season.

“My personal targets are the same as the team’s,” Borja Valero told Viola TV. “I’m not putting any personal goals before that.

Ribery back in training

Fiorentina winger Franck Ribery was reportedly back in training after a blow to the right ankle on Saturday, preparing to face Sampdoria.

The French attacker, who was out for four months last season after undergoing ankle surgery, suffered a suffered a blow to the right ankle during the 4-3 defeat to Inter on Saturday.

Iachini: 'Fiorentina are 95 percent complete'

Fiorentina coach Beppe Iachini said he believes ‘95 per cent of the squad’ has been set and counts on Federico Chiesa to continue fighting for the Viola colours.
