Ronaldo: My toughest year

Cristiano Ronaldo admits 2018 was ‘my toughest year’ and that he ‘doesn’t agree’ with defenders and goalkeepers being sold for €70-80m.

Ronaldo’s success on the field and record transfer to Juventus was overshadowed by allegations of sexual assault, although he will not be facing any charges.

“It was a very difficult year, perhaps my toughest, but not in professional terms,” continued the Portuguese to TVI.

Sarri can free Douglas Costa

Sarri and Ronaldo miss Triestina

Cristiano Ronaldo and Coach Maurizio Sarri are not making the trip to Trieste for tonight’s final Juventus pre-season friendly.

It kicks off at the Stadio Nereo Rocco at 19.30 UK time against Serie C side Triestina.

Coach Sarri will remain at home in Turin, as he is still struggling after a nasty bout of flu, which saw him visibly unwell on the touchline for this week’s in-house friendly at Villa Perosa.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been working separately over the last few days as a precaution due to muscular twinges and will not be risked.

Dybala still has much to give Juventus

Juventus need to think twice before letting a talent like Paulo Dybala leave, as Anthony Barbagallo insists La Joya can shine for Maurizio Sarri.

The recent sales of Italian starlet Moise Kean and Portugal international Joao Cancelo suggests that Juve is heading in entirely the wrong direction. Selling young talents and keeping aged players like Sami Khedira and Gonzalo Higuain means there is no future project in the works over at Turin. However, the bigger picture here is that the Bianconeri are slowly losing their identity.

Juve: James to replace Dybala?

AS is reporting Juventus could hijack Napoli negotiations and replace Paulo Dybala with Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez.

Dybala’s Juve career looks like ending this month, with Paris Saint-Germain and Inter in for the forward if Tottenham Hotspur fail to secure a deal on Thursday.

With that in mind, AS claims Juve have suddenly shown an interest in James, whose proposed move to Napoli continues to stall.

The newspaper explains Cristiano Ronaldo has already approved of the Colombian’s arrival from their time together at Madrid.
