Roma trio resume training

Roma trio Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Leonardo Spinazzola and Nikola Kalinic have resumed training after spells on the sidelines.

Mkhitaryan has been out of action since late September with a torn muscle, whilst Kalinic has been sidelined since fracturing his leg against Sampdoria mid-October.

Spinazzola was a late addition to the treatement table, pulling out of Italy duty with a muscular problem.

However, Mkhitaryan and Spinazzola should be called up to face Istanbul Basaksehir in the Europa League on Thursday.

Mkhitaryan: 'Not a Roma tourist'

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has asserted that “I’m not here to be a tourist. I’m here to help Roma achieve something.”

Mkhitaryan left Arsenal for Roma late in the summer transfer window, moving on a dry loan without an option to buy.

The attacking midfielder has spent the majority of his career in countries with colder weather, and he admits it is a relief to be playing in a sunnier climate.

“It’s great [here]. The club and the city have so much history,” he told FourFourTwo.

Fonseca: 'Mkhitaryan will help Dzeko'

Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be close to a return after the international break and Roma coach Paulo Fonseca feels the Armenian "could help Edin Dzeko."

The attacking midfielder has been out with a tear in the adductor muscle and has missed nine matches for the Giallorossi.

Since the Armenia international has been out through injury, the Bosnian forward Edin Dzeko has only scored once, in a 2-1 win at San Siro. Now Fonseca feels the return of Mkhitaryan could help Dzeko find the back of the net regularly again.

Mkhitaryan out for three weeks

Roma have suffered another injury blow as Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be out for three weeks with a thigh problem.

Just hours after it was confirmed Lorenzo Pellegrini would be out for two months with a metatarsal fracture, Roma tweeted Mkhitaryan was facing a similar layoff.

However, the upcoming international break means he should miss no more than four games for the Giallorossi, two each in Serie A and the Europa League.

The Armenian has scored and assisted in his first four appearances for the Giallorossi since arriving from Arsenal.

The scoreline had been 4-0 after just 33 minutes with Dzeko, Bryan Cristante, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Justin Kluivert on target.

“We should’ve done better in the second half, but the important thing was to get the victory and continue our improvement,” Dzeko told Roma TV.
