Mkhitaryan and the Armenian Job

With Henrikh Mkhitaryan joining Roma and Italy facing Armenia, Vilizar Yakimov analyses the strengths and weaknesses of the ex-Arsenal midfielder and his national team.

When Henrihk Mkhitaryan landed in Rome to complete his deadline day loan move from Arsenal, the entire idea felt like one cobbled together at the last minute in a sense of desperation.

The Armenian midfielder’s arrival in the Eternal City should add some experience and depth to the young Roma midfield that lost Daniele De Rossi this summer. However, Mkhitaryan is obviously a completely different player, so it’s worth taking a look at how the ex-Arsenal man can help their cause.

Sabatini flies out to China

Inter’s technical advisor Walter Sabatini is believed to have flown out to China early, for a meeting with owners Suning Group.

The Nerazzurri haven’t won in seven games in all competitions, and they’re now nine points behind league leaders Napoli, eight behind Juventus.

That probably spells the end of their Scudetto challenge, but the more concerning this is that they’re just three points ahead of fifth-place Roma, who have a game in hand.

Inter miss Mkhitaryan and Pastore?

Inter’s approaches for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Javier Pastore are tricky because neither Manchester United nor PSG want Joao Mario, claim Sky Sport Italia.

The Nerazzurri have a cash-flow problem and, unless Suning put in some big investments, there will be no January signings for Coach Luciano Spalletti.

Their only alternative is to sell one of their big players and Portugal international Joao Mario is the most likely candidate.

Mkhitaryan-Joao Mario exchange

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Inter have decided to take Henrikh Mkhitaryan, sending Joao Mario to Manchester United.

Coach Luciano Spalletti was in a long meeting with directors on Tuesday to discuss transfer strategy for the January window.

Joao Mario is an issue, as he struggles for playing time and confidence, so a loan or even a sale is the most likely outcome.

Paris Saint-Germain are also known to be interested, but Inter have their sights set on Mkhitaryan.

Juve ‘reject €79m & Mkhi for Dybala’

Juventus have reportedly rejected an offer of €79m plus Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United for Paulo Dybala.

According to The Sun, United have set their sights on Dybala after going cold on Antoine Griezmann, but Juve have placed a €97m price-tag on the Argentine forward.

The newspaper explains the Red Devils are ‘desperate’ to inject creativity into their attack and have “given up” on the Armenian, who “has failed to impose himself in the biggest games” since arriving from Borussia Dortmund last year.
