Fulham request Milan's Musacchio

Fulham have asked Milan to buy defender Mateo Musacchio, claim Sky Sport Italia.

The Argentine centre-back turns 28 next month and has also been linked with Sevilla and Udinese.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, English side Fulham have made an initial approach to get Musacchio on a permanent transfer.

He was signed from Villarreal a year ago for €18m, but struggled for much regular first team football.

Udinese ask after Musacchio

Udinese hinted that they asked Milan for Mateo Musacchio in a meeting today, as he already worked with Coach Julio Velazquez.

New Friulani director of sport Daniele Pradé was at Casa Milan today and spoke to reporters as he left the club HQ.

“Do we like Musacchio? Maybe…”

Udinese Coach Velazquez already had Musacchio in his team at Villarreal in 2012-13 and believes he can get the best out of him.

Argentine centre-back Musacchio turns 28 in August and was signed for €18m in 2017, but made very little impact.

Milan plan summer sales

Mateo Musacchio, Luca Antonelli and Nikola Kalinic are among the players Milan are considering selling this summer, according to reports.

The Rossoneri saw a voluntary agreement on Financial Fair Play rejected by UEFA, so they’ll need to make sales to balance the books this summer.

CEO Marco Fassone has admitted they’d need to sell “one or two” top players if the Diavolo fail to qualify for the Champions League, and Rino Gattuso’s side are currently eight points adrift of the top four.

Milan put Musacchio on the market

Milan could sell Mateo Musacchio just six months after his €18m transfer from Villarreal, as he rarely plays.

The 27-year-old Argentina international was signed in July 2017 and was one of the first new arrivals under the Yonghong Li tenure.

However, the defender has managed only 18 competitive appearances this season and is often benched in favour of Alessio Romagnoli and Leonardo Bonucci.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Musacchio is on the market if the Rossoneri can get someone more suited to new Coach Gennaro Gattuso’s tactics.

Milan consider Izzo swap?

Milan are reportedly prepared to exchange Mateo Musacchio or Cristian Zapata for Genoa defender Armando Izzo.

According to CalcioNews24, Izzo fits the bill for Milan as a centre-back that is ‘reliable’ and will give them “breathing space”.

The Neapolitan has slotted straight back into Genoa’s defence after returning from a ban for failing to report match-fixing, and the website notes he is also being courted by Fiorentina and Inter.

Identity crisis in Milan

Sunday’s Derby defeat to Inter proved once again Vincenzo Montella is struggling to forge an identity with his Milan, writes Matthew Santangelo.

Milan succumbed to their own defensive flaws and lack of organisation yet again on Sunday, as Mauro Icardi destroyed them with a hat-trick. Captain Leonardo Bonucci continued to struggle and, collectively, it was a repeat of those same costly errors in the back over the past month that did them in over the weekend.

It’s obvious in the results and eye-test that Vincenzo Montella’s tactical switch to a 3-5-2 in order to suit Bonucci – which he denied after the loss - just isn’t working, like many expected it would.

Musacchio: ‘Milan must stop Icardi’

Milan defender Mateo Musacchio admits Inter captain Mauro Icardi is a danger man in the derby - “we can’t let him breathe”.

The Rossoneri have lost their last two Serie A games, so the pressure is on when they face their city rivals in the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday night.

“There’s no special ritual before this game,” Musacchio said in a Q&A from Milanello.

“It’s not necessary, you just have to think about how important this game is to get the right level of motivation and concentration.

‘Cautious optimism’ over Kalinic

Milan’s team doctor says he is “cautiously optimistic” that Nikola Kalinic will be fit for the derby against Inter on Sunday.

There were fears that Kalinic would miss the clash after he left Croatia’s training camp with a thigh injury, but Stefano Mazzola believes the striker will shake off the problem in time to face Inter.

“Musacchio? Mateo’s had a strain, but he’s doing better and there’s some comforting news regarding him,” he told Milan TV.

‘We’ll do well to stop Dzeko’

Milan’s Mateo Musacchio admits his side will have to be at their best to stop Roma’s Edin Dzeko.

Speaking ahead of kick-off, defender Musacchio added that his team are aware of the importance of the match, with Coach Vincenzo Montella rumoured to be under pressure.
