Zanetti: 'Inter start new era'

Javier Zanetti believes Inter are just starting out a new great era and will eventually partner Mauro Icardi with Lautaro Martinez.

The heroes of the 2010 Treble got together for the Festival dello Sport event, after which Vice-President Zanetti spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“That Inter and this current squad are in two very different situations. We were reaching the apex of an era. Being back in the Champions League is already a starting point, but we have what it takes to do well,” said the Argentine.

Inter brand value doubles

The Inter brand has doubled in value over the last year, worth more than triple what it was in the Erick Thohir era.

According to calculations made by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are now 13th in Europe when it comes to football club brand value at €389m.

That is double the figure registered in 2017 and over three times as much as it had in 2016, before Thohir sold 70 per cent of his shares to Suning Group.

Thohir resists Inter exit

Erick Thohir is still the President of Inter and insists he won’t sell his 30 per cent of the club “until the time is right.”

He bought out the club from Massimo Moratti in 2013 and sold 68.55 per cent to Chinese conglomerate Suning Group in June 2016.

Despite not being particularly involved in the decision-making process, Thohir is still technically the President of Inter.

“Selling my shares is a business decision and we, as businessmen, always want to wait for the right moment to walk away,” Thohir told IDN Times.

Thohir enters Indonesian politics

Inter President Erick Thohir has officially been appointed campaign manager for Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s re-election bid.

Although Thohir only owns 30 per cent of the Serie A club and does not seem particularly involved in decisions, leaving that to Chinese conglomerate Suning Group, he is still technically the President of Inter and has been since 2013.

The 48-year-old had also owned MLS club DC United until last month and hit the headlines in Indonesia recently by organising the Asian Games.

Thohir: 'Inter up to Suning now'

Inter President Erick Thohir maintains he accomplished his mission and “now it’s up to Suning,” but regrets the stadium situation.

The Indonesian businessman bought the club from Massimo Moratti in November 2013, selling to Chinese conglomerate Suning Commerce Group in June 2016.

Although Thohir is technically still the President and owns 31 per cent of the club’s shares, he does not seem to make decisions or have influence over strategy.

He also rarely speaks to the media, but has now given an interview with Lapresse.

Inter can finally compete again

An incredible summer transfer window and financial stability could see Inter back at the top at long last, explains Cronan Yu.

“Life beyond Cristiano Ronaldo is out there”, Italy’s Corriere dello Sport declared. It’s a headline that’s easy enough to print, of course, but in reality, many questioned whether such a scenario was plausible.

Sabatini 'enjoying Samp role'

Sampdoria director Walter Sabatini said he is enjoying his new job, as “the prospects are different to Roma and Inter, so I have more fun.”

The chain-smoking technical director is relishing the role in the port city of Genoa.

“The sea air will be good for my lungs,” he told Rai Radio Due.

“We are working on a project that already exists, so I am called to resolve problems that aren’t here. What Samp want is to be more competitive and not rest on our laurels the way we did last season. We want a little more.

Massara returns to Roma

Director Frederic ‘Ricky’ Massara has returned to Roma and joined Monchi’s staff after leaving Inter.

The comeback had been in the air and was confirmed via the club’s official Twitter account.

Massara had worked at Roma for six years under previous Giallorossi director of sport Walter Sabatini and left the club to follow him to Inter and Suning.

When Sabatini resigned a few weeks ago, it left Massara free and ready for a return to the Stadio Olimpico.

Mayor: 'Inter more solid than Milan'

Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala discussed San Siro renovations and noted “Inter have more solid ownership, while Milan’s situation is objectively more difficult.”

The two clubs share use of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza – commonly referred to as San Siro – though it is owned and run by the local council.

“We need San Siro to be different to what it is today, a stadium that is more attractive and can call in tourists or visitors during the week as well as on match days.

Sabatini: 'Not possible at Inter'

Former director Walter Sabatini has apologised to Inter fans for leaving, but “I wanted to have my style of football and it wasn’t possible here.”

He had been a bridge co-ordinating the two football clubs owned by Suning Group, namely Inter and Jiangsu Suning, but resigned last month following a difference of opinion.

“I did not think that, in certain conditions, I could be of use to a team that deserves something I wasn’t able to develop,” Sabatini told Sky Sport Italia.
