Sabatini: ‘Couldn’t work at Inter’

Walter Sabatini laments “it wasn’t possible” to work at Inter, and left because “the Chinese no longer listened to me”.

The Sampdoria technical director was brought in to co-ordinate between the Nerazzurri and Jiangsu Suning, but he stepped down earlier this year.

Today he gave a lengthy interview to the Corriere dello Sport, who asked what he’ll remember from his time with the Beneamata.

“The fans,” Sabatini replied.

Suning to buy out Thohir?

Inter’s majority shareholder Jindong Zhang is reportedly prepared to buy out Erick Thohir’s 30 per cent holding.

Chinese conglomerate Suning Group bought around 70 per cent of the club in 2016, with the former owner dropping to 30 per cent by taking control of Massimo Moratti’s shares.

Now il Sole 24 Ore reports that Suning are ready to take full control of the club - save for some minor shareholders - by buying out Thohir.

Thohir to sell Inter shares?

Inter President Erick Thohir is reportedly looking to sell his 30 percent stake in the club.

According to Corriere della Sera, Thohir is seeking a minimum of €150m for his shares in Inter, thereby valuing the club at €500m.

The Indonesian’s role for the Nerazzurri has been increasingly marginalised since Suning Group’s takeover in the summer of 2016, despite still holding the official title of President.

The newspaper notes Suning will welcome a new investor ‘with open arms’ as opposed to buying out the 48-year-old.

Mayor: 'Inter more solid than Milan'

Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala discussed San Siro renovations and noted “Inter have more solid ownership, while Milan’s situation is objectively more difficult.”

The two clubs share use of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza – commonly referred to as San Siro – though it is owned and run by the local council.

“We need San Siro to be different to what it is today, a stadium that is more attractive and can call in tourists or visitors during the week as well as on match days.

Milan: Mirabelli out, Sabatini in?

Milan have reportedly held talks with Walter Sabatini about the former Roma and Inter man becoming their next sporting director.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan representatives met Sabatini in London, in a sign that the Rossoneri are preparing to dismiss Massimiliano Mirabelli at the end of the season.

The 62-year-old only left arch-rivals Inter last month, having been employed as a technical coordinator by their owners Suning Group.

Sabatini: 'Not possible at Inter'

Former director Walter Sabatini has apologised to Inter fans for leaving, but “I wanted to have my style of football and it wasn’t possible here.”

He had been a bridge co-ordinating the two football clubs owned by Suning Group, namely Inter and Jiangsu Suning, but resigned last month following a difference of opinion.

“I did not think that, in certain conditions, I could be of use to a team that deserves something I wasn’t able to develop,” Sabatini told Sky Sport Italia.

Antonello: 'Inter plans haven't changed'

Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello assures their “plans have not changed” with Walter Sabatini’s departure, nor will they “dismantle” the squad.

Technical co-ordinator Sabatini terminated his contract by mutual consent this week, just hours after Coach Fabio Capello quit Jiangsu Suning.

“We are surprised that after Sabatini’s departure, there was even talk in the media of dismantling Inter, going so far as to suggest Suning could walk away,” Antonello told news agency Ansa.

Zhang: ‘Inter not for sale’

Steven Zhang, son of Inter owner Jindong Zhang, reiterates that Suning Group have no desire to sell the club.

It was claimed on Wednesday that the Chinese conglomerate was considering selling the Nerazzurri, having received an offer of €600m.

Suning swiftly denied that in a statement, and now the owner’s son has had his say.

“I guess some people just don’t understand whatever confusion they make,” Zhang wrote on his Instagram page.
