Cancelo row over Inter position

Joao Cancelo was dropped for Inter-Crotone after a row with Luciano Spalletti over his tactical position, claim Portuguese reports.

The former Valencia right-back was left on the bench for the 1-1 draw at San Siro last Saturday, coming on for the final minutes as a substitute.

It had already been rumoured a training ground bust-up was the reason behind his exclusion, but more details are emerging.

Kalinic to miss Spal

Milan striker Nikola Kalinic looks set to miss the trip to Spal this weekend, having pulled out of training today.

The Croatian has scored four goals this season since his move from Fiorentina, but hasn’t found the back of the net since the 2-2 draw with Benevento on December 3.

Now he has picked up an injury, which will almost certainly see him miss Saturday afternoon’s game.

“Today he didn’t take part in training because he has an inflammation to the adductor region,” Doctor Stefano Mazzoni told Milan TV.

Gattuso: ‘Compliments make me angry’

Milan Coach Gennaro Gattuso declares “I get angry when hear compliments for us, just look at the table”.

The Rossoneri drew 1-1 with Udinese at the weekend, meaning they remain eighth in the table, 10 points off their minimum objective of a Champions League place.

“We missed the knockout blow,” Gattuso said of the match, speaking to Milan TV today.

“Before the red card we were masters of the pitch, we did things the way we had to, with great desire and personality.

There are still 15 rounds to go in the Serie A season, yet it already feels as if we’re just waiting for the Superbowl: Juventus v Napoli in Week 34. Both sides are flattening everything in their path, creating a massive gap from the chasing pack, who are now not so much chasing as panting on their knees, watching the front two disappear over the horizon.

SPAL to sack Semplici?

SPAL are reportedly considering the axe for Coach Leonardo Semplici, targeting Edy Reja and Gianni De Biasi.

The 50-year-old tactician was the mastermind behind their ascent into Serie A for the first time since the 1960s, winning the Serie B title last term ahead of Hellas Verona and Benevento.

The Spallini now sit third from bottom after three wins, eight draws and 12 defeats.

According to some reports, the Ferrara club is considering a change of management to shake things up, though Semplici has been in charge since December 2014.

Lopez: 'Surprised by Castan'

Diego Lopez was impressed with Leandro Castan after Cagliari beat SPAL 2-0. “I didn’t expect him to be this good after a year out.”

The defender is on loan from Roma, but his career was derailed by an operation on a cavernoma – a cluster of irregular blood vessels in the brain.

“We all know what happened to him in recent years,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Cagliari swept SPAL aside at the Sardegna Arena for a potentially crucial relegation dogfight result.

The Rossoblu broke away from the danger zone with this victory on home turf.

Luca Cigarini opened the scoring with a precise solo effort from distance, ricocheting in off the inside of the upright.

Marco Sau then came off the bench to finish it off, inspired by a Leandro Castan back-heel flick, after Joao Pedro saw a goal disallowed for offside.
