The Italy national team have released behind-the-scenes footage from the build-up, pre- and post-match and the games itself following Thursday night’s 2-1 victory over Venezuela in the United States.

Luciano Spalletti and his side were victorious in their mid-season friendly thanks to goals in each half from Genoa striker Mateo Retegui, who now has four in his first five matches for the Italy national team

Retegui starred as the lone striker in Spalletti’s new 3-4-2-1 system, which featured Davide Frattesi and Federico Chiesa in the advanced roles behind the no. 9.

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma spared Italy’s blushes in the early stages as he saved a penalty following a disastrous mix-up from Destiny Udogie, Giorgio Scalvini and Alessandro Buongiorno.

Former Premier League striker Salomon Rondon was kept out by the outstretched Donnarumma, who also did well to prevent the rebound from Jefferson Savarino.

There were plenty of other attractions on the night, as Italy were watched by tennis star Jannik Sinner, who is also competing in Miami this week.

Italy will stay put in the United States for now, as they prepare to face Ecuador in another friendly in New York on Sunday evening.
