Coppa: Third Round shocks

There were more huge upsets in the Coppa Italia Third Round, as Perugia humiliated Benevento 4-0, Bologna were knocked out by Cittadella and Cagliari beat Palermo on penalties.

Bologna at least had the excuse of being down to 10 men for 85 minutes, as Simone Verdi foolishly got himself sent off for lashing out an elbow.

Benevento are new to Serie A, but their Coppa Italia adventure is already over for this season, as Serie B outfit Perugia earned a shock 4-0 away victory.

Coppa: 10-man Bologna out

Bologna crashed out of the Coppa Italia after a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Cittadella, but Simone Verdi was sent off within five minutes.

It was a strong line-up from Coach Roberto Donadoni, but their Third Round tie was inevitably ruined almost as soon as it had begun.

Verdi lashed out with an elbow on Pezzi after just five minutes and a red card was the only option, especially as the Cittadella player then had to be substituted.

Official: Spal sign Grassi

Spal have officially signed midfielder Alberto Grassi on loan from Napoli with option to buy and a counter-option.

The 22-year-old came up through the Atalanta youth academy and made his mark with the Orobici.

Today he has formally been loaned to Serie A new boys Spal with an option to buy at the end of the season.
