SPAL sign Juventus defender

Serie A new boys SPAL continue to bolster their ranks by signing Juventus talent Federico Mattiello on loan.

The right-back turns 22 later this month and has arrived on a one-season loan deal.

He came up through the Bianconeri academy, then had a spell at Chievo before returning to base last term.

Mattiello’s career took a turn for the worse in March 2015 when he fractured his leg in an accidental collision with Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan.

SPAL: ‘Meret, stay with us’

SPAL President Walter Mattioli urges Napoli target Alex Meret to “stay with us for another year and grow”.

The Udinese goalkeeper spent last season on loan with the Estensi, helping them to win promotion to Serie A.

It has been rumoured that he could join the Partenopei to eventually replace Pepe Reina, but the SPAL patron believes he should remain for another year to gain experience.

“Meret is a great goalkeeper, he can be among the best in Italy,” said Mattioli on Radio Crc.

The original €30m asking price and the Rossoneri’s €20m offer were too far apart, but Sportitalia and Sky Sport Italia suggest they are finding common ground.
