Palmieri: ‘I’m not 100 per cent’

Emerson Palmieri admits “I can’t say I’m at 100 per cent”, but is ready to return for Roma if asked.

The Brazilian has been out since May with a cruciate ligament injury, but could feature against Spal on Friday if Coach Eusebio Di Francesco deems him ready.

“I can’t say I’m at 100 per cent,” the defender told Sky.

“I’m working every day to be back as soon as possible. The urge to play is there, it’s normal.

‘Roma game not crucial for Spal’

Spal President Walter Mattioli promises “we’ll play our game” at Roma but “it’s not the kind of game we need to get points in to stay up”.

The Giallorossi are seven points off the top of Serie A, with a game in hand, and they welcome the newly-promoted Spallini to the capital on Friday evening.

“Spal will play our game at Roma, but it’s not the kind of game we need to get points in to stay up,” Mattioli told reporters, as reported by RomaNews.

SPAL fury at Coppa exit

SPAL Coach Leonardo Semplici took responsibility for their Coppa Italia exit to Serie B outfit Cittadella, but President Walter Mattioli was furious with the squad.

The Spallini were knocked out with a 2-0 home defeat this evening, sending Cittadella through to face Lazio in the Round of 16.

“It was a bad performance, that goes beyond giving Cittadella credit, and the responsibility is only mine,” said Coach Semplici in his Press conference.

After Pordenone stunned Cagliari 2-1 in Sardinia, this evening Cittadella emerged with a 2-0 victory at the Stadio Mazza.

Wk14: The Sliding Doors Scudetto

Who knows how many tiny moments will decide the title race in Serie A this season? Susy Campanale believes we saw a few in this weekend's games.

Life is just a series of moments and put together they form a narrative, but it’s the ‘Sliding Doors’ effect: what if that one tiny detail had gone differently? A Scudetto can be won and lost on whether the ball ricochets off the woodwork just the right way to bounce into the net or back out.

Semplici: 'SPAL should've won'

Leonardo Semplici said SPAL “go home angry, because we should’ve finished it off” after fumbling their lead to lose 2-1 at Chievo.

They had dominated the first half at the Stadio Bentegodi and gone in front through a Bostjan Cesar own goal with Stefano Sorrentino decisive on a series of efforts.

However, Roberto Inglese’s brace in the second half turned it around.

Maran thanks Chievo old guard

Chievo Coach Rolando Maran credited the old guard of Stefano Sorrentino and Sergio Pellissier with the 2-1 victory over SPAL.

The Flying Donkeys had gone behind and were dominated in the first half, kept in the game by goalkeeper Sorrentino, but turned it around with a Roberto Inglese brace.

“We must focus on safety above all else, even if we are doing very well with 20 points from 14 rounds. We have to continue our path and not get distracted,” Maran told Sky Sport Italia.

Chievo turn SPAL over

Roberto Inglese bagged a brace, both set up by veteran Sergio Pellissier, to turn SPAL over after Stefano Sorrentino heroics in goal.

It’s a disappointing setback for SPAL, who had taken a fully-deserved lead in the first half thanks to Bostjan Cesar putting a Manuel Lazzari pull-back into his own net.

Sorrentino performed a series of desperate saves to keep his team in the game and they eventually proved decisive.

After the break, Pellissier came off the bench and helped set up both goals for centre-forward Inglese to turn it around completely.
