‘SPAL are doing well, but…’

SPAL general director Andrea Gazzoli praises the club’s start to life in Serie A but thinks they have deserved more points.

The Biancazzurri, playing in the top flight this season for the first time in 49 years, have taken nine points from their first 12 games of the campaign to sit sixteenth in the table.

“We have done well in the opening matches,” Gazzoli told TMW Radio.

“But we haven’t taken as many points as we have deserved.

Wk12: Depth charge

Few expected Roma to be the paragons of squad rotation, but Napoli lack understudies and Milan are missing ideas, writes Susy Campanale.

Semplici and SPAL regrets

SPAL Coach Leonardo Semplici was left with regrets after a 1-1 draw against 10-man Atalanta. “We could’ve taken three points.”

Luca Rizzo’s splendid solo effort cancelled out a Bryan Cristante opener, but the visitors had great chances in the final minutes with Federico Viviani and Mirco Antenucci.

“The performance was excellent and it was the only way we could get a result here,” Semplici told Rai Sport.

Gasperini slams VAR

Gian Piero Gasperini insists Atalanta were “damaged” by VAR and the Remo Freuler red card in their 1-1 draw with SPAL.

Bryan Cristante had opened the scoring, cancelled out by Luca Rizzo’s curler, but the hosts clung on down to 10 men for the last 20 minutes.

“We could’ve done more and perhaps there was some fatigue after the Europa League on Thursday,” confessed the Coach on Rai Sport.

SPAL comeback at 10-man Atalanta

SPAL came back from a goal down to hold 10-man Atalanta and very nearly won it in stoppages, where they were denied by the upright.

Remo Freuler saw red for a dangerous tackle on Federico Viviani, leaving Atalanta down to 10 men for the final 20 minutes.

Semplici: ‘SPAL have gained confidence’

Leonardo Semplici says SPAL are more confident heading into today’s match with Atalanta, having beaten Genoa last week.

The Ferrara side had lost seven of their previous eight Serie A games prior to last weekend’s victory over the Griffone.

However, Semplici claims his team’s second victory of the season has given his players renewed belief about their chances of staying in Italy’s top flight.
