Wk6: Human error

Football cannot exist without errors, judgment calls and disagreements, so Susy Campanale warns it's all about the great imponderable elements.

It is impossible – nor is it desirable – to completely remove human error from sport. VAR’s truth is in the eye of the beholder. Players making mistakes to cause or miss goals is what football is based on. A Coach will always be accused of doing something wrong, no matter how much or little he changes his team from match to match. Errors, and the avoidance of them, are what make sport possible. It’s also why there are so many debate shows, podcasts, Twitter feeds and blogs like this one, because we don’t all agree on what is right.

Reports Milik ruptured ACL again

There are multiple reports Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik has ruptured the ACL in his right knee and will be out for four to six months.

The forward had already sustained a similar injury to his left knee while on international duty for Poland in September 2016.

Last night he was playing as a substitute in the 3-2 Serie A win over SPAL when his right knee appeared to buckle.

Napoli: 'Milik might need surgery'

Napoli confirm Arkadiusz Milik will see a knee specialist tomorrow, as “there is the possibility he could require surgery.”

The striker’s right knee appeared to buckle during the closing stages of last night’s 3-2 Serie A victory away to SPAL.

Although this was not the same knee that required an operation for a torn ACL a year ago, it nonetheless prompted immediate concern.

Milik injury ‘not that bad’

Napoli’s Arkadiusz Milik insists his knee injury sustained in the win over SPAL is ‘not as bad’ as last season’s.

Having come on as a second-half substitute for Maurizio Sarri’s team in Ferrara, the Polish forward limped off the field during the closing stages of the Partenopei’s 3-2 victory after his right-knee gave way despite no contact with an opposing player.

Gazzetta dello Sport report this morning that the Azzurri are worried about the extent of Milik’s problem.

Semplici: 'SPAL have regrets'

Leonardo Semplici admits SPAL were left with “great regret” after a 3-2 defeat to Napoli. “If we play with this mentality, we’ll get our objective.”

Pasquale Schiattarella had given them the lead at the Stadio Mazza, then Federico Viviani’s free kick clawed their way back to 2-2, but a Faouzi Ghoulam solo effort proved decisive.

“There is great regret, because we did put in a good performance,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

Sarri: 'Napoli react to setbacks'

Maurizio Sarri was pleased with the way Napoli reacted to beat SPAL 3-2, as “the team is becoming more determined on negative incidents.”

Lorenzo Insigne cancelled out a Pasquale Schiattarella opener, but it took a late Faouzi Ghoulam solo run to secure their 3-2 victory at the Stadio Mazza in Ferrara.

Insigne: 'Napoli struggled today'

Lorenzo Insigne admits SPAL “caused us real problems,” but Napoli have greater belief after their 3-2 victory.

It was a thriller at the Stadio Mazza to maintain the 100 per cent record so far in Serie A this season.

“We struggled, but are also enjoying the victory. We must do more, but SPAL caused us real problems today and we did well to believe until the end,” Insigne told Mediaset Premium.

Napoli win SPAL five-goal thriller

Napoli had to claw their way to a sixth straight victory, maintaining the perfect record, but SPAL made it very difficult for them in a 3-2 thriller.

The Partenopei are the only side to have won every Serie A match so far this season, awaiting Juventus in the Derby della Mole against Torino tonight.

It was certainly an eventful clash in Ferrara, as Pasquale Schiattarella gave the hosts a surprise lead, only to be cancelled out by Lorenzo Insigne 77 seconds later.
