Lopez: 'We can't give up'

Brescia coach Diego Lopez was happy with the performance against SPAL and claimed the Rondinelle ‘can’t give up’ on salvation.

A brace from Jaromir Zmrhal cancelled out Bryan Dabo’s opener and helped Brescia claim all the spoils in 2-1 win at the Rigamonti on Sunday.

With 12 points left to play for and nine points to safety, it’s a tall task for Lopez’ men, but the coach will never stop believing.

Highlights: Brescia 2-1 SPAL

SPAL were doomed to the drop after fumbling the lead to lose 2-1 at Brescia with a career first brace from Jaromir Zmrhal.

This was classed as the battle to avoid finishing last, because both are heading to Serie B next season.

Bryan Dabo had given SPAL the deserved lead, but Zmrhal proved to be the unlikely Rondinelle hero.

He had never scored in Serie A before, but went on to net both goals and turn the game around.

Inter, Atalanta and SPAL verdicts

There are already some verdicts in Week 34, as Inter and Atalanta have qualified for the Champions League, while SPAL are mathematically relegated.

The round does not conclude until Monday evening with Juventus-Lazio, but we already have some certainties from this rather unusual Serie A season.

SPAL were beaten 2-1 by Brescia in stoppages, having taken the lead through Bryan Dabo, and are therefore doomed to Serie B.

Di Biagio: 'SPAL will bounce back'

Luigi Di Biagio insisted SPAL ‘have what it takes to bounce back’ following their relegation but refused to confirm if he would be their coach in Serie B.

SPAL’s late 2-1 defeat to Brescia ended their three-year stint in the top flight, and Di Biagio could not hide his disappointment after the match.

“Right now, I share the pain felt by the city, the fans and the club,” said the former Italy Under-21 coach.

Rizzoli: 'There's a problem with handball'

Refereeing designator Nicola Rizzoli admits ‘there is undoubtedly a problem’ with the current handball rules, but he ‘expected more’ from players, coaches and directors.

There have already been a record number of penalties awarded in Serie A this season with four rounds still to play and 50 of them were for handball.

“The development of technology has evolved to such a degree that the shift in sport can be compared to the industrial revolution in the mid-1800s,” wrote Rizzoli in La Gazzetta dello Sport.

SPAL are 11 points adrift at the bottom with only five games remaining and travel to a Brescia side just one place above them and similarly on the verge of losing their top-flight status.

Serie A Week 34 referees

The referees for Serie A’s Week 34 fixtures have been confirmed, with Marco Di Bello given Roma-Inter.

Di Bello has been one of Serie A’s more lenient referees this season, awarding five penalties and sending off just one player in his 14 matches.

Roma have won two of their three games with the 39-year-old, compared to Inter’s sole victory when he oversaw their trip to Udinese in February.
