Official: Tommasi leaves Players' Association

Damiano Tommasi has announced his resignation as President of the Italian Players’ Association (AIC) with immediate effect.

There will be an election for a new President, but until then vice-president Umberto Calcagno will take on the functions of the President.

Tommasi has been part of the AIC since 1999 and became President in 2011, replacing Sergio Campana.

“There were many complicated moments and we emerged from them with union and teamwork,” wrote the former Roma midfielder in a statement.

Tommasi: 'Need later kick-off times'

Players’ Association President Damiano Tommasi has urged Serie A to follow La Liga by scheduling summer games late at night, while he’s ‘perplexed’ by the Coppa Italia plan.

The Lega Serie A will work out the calendar on Monday, with the tournament resuming on June 20, while the Coppa Italia is meant to have the semi-finals on June 13-14 and the Final on June 17.

“This is about ensuring health and safety, so I hope the issue of kick-off time won’t become a problem,” Tommasi told Rai Sport.

The Players’ Union President Damiano Tommasi has voiced his concern about the health of the players and claimed the early kick-off must be scrapped during summer months.

Tommasi: 'No point risking a start like this'

Players’ Association President Damiano Tommasi wants squads to be heard when forming the Serie A medical protocol. ‘There’s no point risking a start now if it could all grind to a halt again.’

Just 24 hours after the Government and FIGC agreed a medical protocol, the Serie A clubs and Players’ Association demanded changes.

They want to ensure that if someone tests positive for COVID-19, only he goes into a 15-day quarantine and not the entire squad.
