Diamond Barella not so rough

Do not mistake Nicolò Barella’s love for Cagliari with immaturity or a lack of character, warns Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall.

Despite Nicolò Barella’s never ending love for Cagliari and his devotion to Sardinia, it is time for him to move to a club that is equal to his talents. That is according to former Cagliari Coach Massimo Rastelli. With Antonio Conte landing at Inter, it now seems his destination is set in stone, but just what will the Nerazzurri be getting and just how much for? Will one of Europe’s most promising midfielders be ready for the biggest stage away from the home he loves so much?

Lopez: 'Icardi is an animal'

Diego Lopez confessed Cagliari played the way he wanted by putting Inter under pressure, but “Mauro Icardi is an animal in the box.”

The Sardinians dominated for long periods, especially in the first half, but conceded goals against the run of play and were denied by Samir Handanovic heroics in a 3-1 defeat.

Lopez set for Cagliari return

Diego Lopez is on the verge of a return to Cagliari after Massimo Rastelli was sacked this afternoon, as Palermo terminated his contract.

The Uruguayan tactician was still under contract with Palermo, despite being fired last season, and tonight the club announced he had terminated the deal by mutual consent.

This is usually done so that the Coach is free to sign for another club.

Report: Cagliari to sack Rastelli

Cagliari are believed to be on the verge of sacking Coach Massimo Rastelli, following four defeats in a row.

The Isolani were beaten 3-2 at home by Genoa at the weekend, continuing a poor run of form which has seen them slump to 13th in Serie A.

According to Sky, the board have taken the decision to fire Rastelli, with an official announcement expected later today.

Former Palermo boss Beppe Iachini is thought to be first in line to replace the outgoing Coach, with Massimo Oddo also being considered.

Rastelli: 'Cagliari can make decisions'

Cagliari Coach Massimo Rastelli admits his position is in doubt after the 3-2 home defeat to Genoa. “The club can make its decisions.”

The Sardinians continue to struggle and were fortunate not to lose by a bigger margin this afternoon.

“I have not spoken to anyone from the club,” Rastelli told Rai Sport.

“I have been here for two and a half years, I have a good rapport with everyone and the club can make its decisions. It has that right.

Rastelli: ‘I’m not under pressure’

Cagliari Coach Massimo Rastelli insists “the club and the lads are with me”, despite five defeats in the first seven games.

The Sardinian side have taken six Serie A points so far this season, and they sit just three points above the relegation zone.

That had led to speculation that they could make a change on the bench, but the Isolani Coach is confident in his position.

“A Coach lives and dies on his results,” Rastelli told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“But the club and the lads are with me.”
