Rastelli: ‘Win the most important thing’

Massimo Rastelli says the most important thing was to win after Cagliari beat Crotone by a single goal.

Marco Sau scored the only goal as the Sardegna Arena opened with the Rossoblu securing an important victory against possible relegation rivals.

“Today what mattered was to win,” Rastelli told reporters following the conclusion of the match.

“It was the first match at the Sardegna Arena and we were facing a team with the same targets as us.

Rastelli: 'Feels like Cagliari won'

Massimo Rastelli insists Cagliari deserved even more than a point after their 2-1 defeat to Milan. “It feels as if we won.”

Patrick Cutrone had opened the scoring at San Siro on a Suso assist, then Joao Pedro equalised, but the Spaniard curled in a wonderful free kick.

“If Cagliari had drawn this match, we would’ve left here with the regret of not having all three points,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Rastelli: 'Harsh on Cagliari'

Massimo Rastelli felt a 3-0 defeat to Juventus was harsh on Cagliari and confirmed they’ll bring in Gregory van der Wiel from Fenerbahce.

The Sardinians had the chance to equalise an early Mario Mandzukic strike when VAR was used for the first time in Serie A to award a penalty, but Diego Farias saw his spot-kick parried by Gigi Buffon.

Juve went on to win 3-0 with Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain goals.

Rastelli unsure of Cagliari future

Massimo Rastelli is unsure of his future at Cagliari after a 6-2 hammering at the hands of Sassuolo.

Despite leading the Sardinians to a comfortable mid-table finish in their first season back in Serie A, the Rossoblu boss believes his side's performance against the Neroverdi this afternoon was so poor that it may have persuaded the club's board to consider his position.

"Finishing like this gives me regrets. It was one of the worst performances of the season," Rastelli admitted.

Rastelli: 'We deserved it'

Cagliari boss Massimo Rastelli says his side deserved their victory over struggling Empoli.

The Rossoblu were 3-0 up at one stage of the contest against the Azzurri, but their lead was pegged back to just one goal.

"I think it was a really deserved victory," Rastelli said after seeing his side climb to 11th in the Serie A table.

"In the first half we went 3-0 up and had a lot of chances to score goals.

"In the second half, it wasn't easy to keep our high intensity - due to the heat as well.

Rastelli: 'Cagliari chasing shadows'

Massimo Rastelli concedes Cagliari were “chasing shadows” in their 3-1 defeat to Napoli, but made his case for keeping the job next season.

The Sardinians were comprehensively outplayed, but still managed to get a consolation goal with the last kick of the game.

“I didn’t expect to concede a goal after two minutes, so straight away our tactical plan went out the window,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Cagliari to call in Prandelli?

Cagliari are planning to drop Coach Massimo Rastelli for next season and bring in former Italy boss Cesare Prandelli.

It would be an unusual step for the Sardinians, as Rastelli took them to promotion from Serie B last term and ensured mid-table safety in the top flight.

His contract runs to June 2018, but Tuttosport claim Cagliari directors see this as the natural end to 48-year-old Rastelli’s reign.

Instead, they are hoping to convince Prandelli to take the Stadio Sant’Elia job for next season.
