Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani congratulates Inter on winning the title and insists Gerry Cardinale will ultimately make a decision on Stefano Pioli.

The Rossoneri lost 2-1 to city rivals Inter on Monday, seeing the Nerazzurri celebrate their 20th Serie A title.

Inter won the last six meetings with their city rivals and the Rossoneri were clearly disappointed after the final whistle. Coach Pioli released a post-match interview with DAZN but didn’t show up for a post-match press conference, contrary to his counterpart Simone Inzaghi.

Multiple sources in Italy claim Milan will part company with Pioli at the end of the season, but Furlani said a decision on the Rossoneri boss is not imminent.

Furlani hints at Cardinale’s decision on Pioli

“The coach is Stefano Pioli. We are focused on the end of the season. Moncada, Ibrahimovic, and I report to [club owner] Gerry Cardinale, who ultimately makes the final decision,” the Rossoneri CEO told DAZN, as quoted by Milannews.

Pioli’s contract expires in June 2025, but the Rossoneri haven’t won any trophies over the last two seasons.

“First of all, we congratulate Inter. We wish it were us, but we are working for next season to ensure its success,” continued Furlani.

“Five games remain. We currently sit second, and we want to keep this placement. We are focused on the next matches.

“We always build a team to win. This was the target [last summer]. However, it is not always possible to win. We made a big revolution last summer, but it will be lighter this time. The target remains the same.”

When a reporter asked if Milan would continue investing in young players, Furlani replied: “It doesn’t matter whether a player is young or not. What counts is whether a player is good, and we’ll try to build a competitive team.”
