Good riddance, Chievo

The Flying Donkeys once won hearts as plucky underdogs, but Emmet Gates saw them become the epitome of mid-table mediocrity and a Serie A eyesore.

There was once a time in which Chievo conquered the heart and minds of football fans. Chievo vent fury at VAR 'inequality'

Chievo President Luca Campedelli was livid after the 4-3 defeat to Fiorentina. “What’s the point in VAR if you make decisions willy-nilly?”

The controversial loss saw Emanuele Giaccherini’s goal disallowed because Sergio Pellissier had a toe on the penalty area line when the goal kick was taken, then VAR was not consulted after Pellissier seemed to be barged over by German Pezzella for a spot-kick.

‘Chievo not thinking about relegation’

Chievo President Luca Campedelli insists “I’m not thinking about relegation” and warns players “who don’t believe” will be sold in January.

The Flying Donkeys started the season with a three point deduction, and haven’t won a Serie A game all season.

They’re 10 points from safety, but since the arrival of Domenico Di Carlo as Coach the Veronese side are unbeaten and have managed draws against Napoli and Lazio.

The former Italy CT offered his resignation in the aftermath, but that hasn’t yet been accepted by the club.

According to today’s Corriere della Sera, President Luca Campedelli wants to convince Ventura to stay.
