Schick and Olsen to miss Porto

Roma are expected to be without Robin Olsen and Patrik Schick for the Champions League tie against Porto, while Kostas Manolas is in doubt.

The first leg in the Round of 16 kicks off on Tuesday evening at the Stadio Olimpico.

Schick limped off during last night’s 3-0 Serie A victory over Chievo clutching the back of his left thigh.

According to Sky Sport Italia, initial tests point to him being unable to recover in time for this game.

Roma need more for Porto

Roma are finally beginning to rediscover their confidence, writes Massimo Nuzzo, but will it be enough against Porto?

This season has been a turbulent one for Roma. If you told Romanisti prior to the start of the league campaign that they would be 22 points from the top (which could go back to 25 depending on this weekend’s results) and on the losing side of a 7-1 Coppa Italia result, they would have called you crazy. Unfortunately for the Giallorossi faithful, though, these statements are true.

EDF: 'Roma must be solid and attack'

Eusebio Di Francesco appreciated Roma unity and the hard work of the forwards against Chievo, stood up for Aleksandar Kolarov and gave injury updates.

Stephan El Shaarawy, Edin Dzeko and Kolarov got the goals at the Bentegodi, while the Giallorossi also hit the woodwork twice in the 3-0 result.

“We started strong, Chievo fought back and gambled everything, but we were always in control and could’ve had a few more goals,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

EDF: 'De Rossi extraordinary'

Eusebio Di Francesco asked why Roma “need to get a slap in the face” before reacting, but the 1-1 draw with Milan showed Daniele De Rossi’s importance.

The pressure was on after a 7-1 Coppa Italia defeat to Fiorentina, but Nicolò Zaniolo cancelled out a Krzysztof Piatek opener for this draw.

Agent: Schick not leaving Roma

Patrik Schick’s agent has ruled out the possibility of the striker leaving Roma ‘before the expiry of his contract’.

Schick had been linked with a move to Cardiff City earlier in the week, but Pavel Paska made it clear his client was committed to Roma for at least the next three years.

“I can rule out Patrik leaving Roma before the expiry of his contract,” he told isport.blesk.cz.

Cardiff move for Schick?

Cardiff City have reportedly offered to sign Roma forward Patrik Schick on loan with an option to buy.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Cardiff are back in the market for a striker after a plane carrying record signing Emiliano Sala went missing.

The website explains the Premier League strugglers have ‘put Schick in their crosshairs’ and proposed a €2m loan for the Czech.

That would rise to €3m if Cardiff avoided relegation, as well as include a €30m option to buy at the end of the season.

Schick: Mental coach important, but...

Patrik Schick maintains that while his mental coach has been ‘important’, he is not behind the Roma striker’s return to form.

Schick has started delivering on his €42m price tag with three goals and two assists in his last four games, almost coming at the same time the Czech hired a mental coach to help him improve his performances.

“I don’t think I suffered with the pressure at the start,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Roma reacting to setbacks

The 3-2 victory over Torino showed the best and worst of Roma, but Anthony Barbagallo believes they are finally overcoming their weaknesses.

After overcoming a tenacious Torino side in a five-goal thriller, Roma are back in the top four – awaiting Lazio and Milan results. While the Giallorossi’s performance against the Granata was far from flawless, it’s safe to assume that Eusebio Di Francesco has regained control of his troops, at least for the time being.

Spurs told to forget Schick

Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs who made an offer for Patrik Schick, claim Sky Sport Italia, but Roma turned them down.

The Czech forward turns 23 next week and was snapped up from Sampdoria for €14m plus up to €18m in various performance-related bonuses.

He has flopped so far at the Olimpico, but has shown signs of improvement after hiring a mental coach to help with his lack of confidence.
