EDF: Schick mustn't stop now

Eusebio Di Francesco urged Patrik Schick to ‘keep working on becoming more clinical’ after the Roma striker scored a brace against Virtus Entella.

Schick netted twice and assisted Ivan Marcano in a 4-0 Roma win on Monday, which booked them a Coppa Italia quarter-final date with Fiorentina, and Di Francesco made it clear the performance was only the beginning for the Czech.

“He had a good game, even though he always satisfies me,” the Coach said after the game.

Former Milan striker Nikola Kalinic has won the Bidone d’Oro as worst signing of 2018, dominating the vote ahead of Patrik Schick and Andre Silva.

The ‘Golden Bin’ award is handed out to the player who has most disappointed following a Serie A transfer.

Handed out by the website Calciobidoni.it, over 13,000 people voted from a short-list of candidates including Juve-owned Marko Pjaca, Henrique Dalbert of Inter, his Nerazzurri teammate Joao Mario, ex-Juventus defender Benedikt Howedes and Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.

Schick hires mental coach

Roma striker Patrik Schick has started working with mental coach Jan Muhlfeit in a bid to end his dismal form.

The Czech international turns 23 later this month and cost €14m plus up to another €8m in performance-related bonuses from Sampdoria in the summer of 2017.

However, he has scored only five goals with one assist in 44 competitive appearances for the Giallorossi.

Schick’s performances have been sluggish and he missed some extraordinary sitters, so he has taken new steps to rediscover his lost confidence.

Duncan: 'Roma win decided beforehand'

Sassuolo midfielder Alfred Duncan claims their defeat to Roma “was decided beforehand” after goal-line technology ruled out a potential equaliser by millimetres.

The Neroverdi eventually lost 3-1, but it was only 1-0 when Patrik Schick’s clumsy clearance from a corner bounced off the crossbar and back out.

Goal-line technology did not send out an alert, because there was a millimetre or two still hovering above the line.

Bologna want Schick too

Bologna are reportedly challenging Sampdoria for the signature of Roma striker Patrik Schick.

The Czech international has struggled since joining the Giallorossi in the summer of 2017, and it’s widely reported that he’ll leave in January, at least on loan.

A return to Sampdoria would be a logical option, but Il Resto del Carlino reports that Bologna are also interested.

The Rossoblu want to take Schick on loan, and Roma have an incentive to do business with them.

Roma discuss Batshuayi option

Roma have reportedly asked Chelsea for Michy Batshuayi on loan, interrupting his Valencia spell, if Patrik Schick leaves in January.

The 25-year-old Belgium international has 12 goals in 23 senior caps for his country, but has struggled to replicate that form at club level.

He was picked up from Olympique Marseille for €39m in 2016, then had loan experiences at Borussia Dortmund and Valencia to get more playing time.

However, he is seemingly not content at Valencia and could interrupt that deal six months early.

Report: Schick accepts Samp return

Roma flop Patrik Schick has reportedly relented and given the all-clear for a loan to his old club Sampdoria.

The 22-year-old was signed in the summer of 2018 for a total of €14m plus up to another €8m in various bonuses.

However, he has failed to live up to expectations, managing only four goals in 41 competitive games.

It was hoped during Edin Dzeko’s injury that he would step up and find some form in his favoured role, but the results continued to be dire.

EDF: 'Roma are still ill'

Eusebio Di Francesco explained he was less interested in Roma technique and talent against Genoa than determination. “We’re still a team that is ‘ill’ in a way.”

There were reports the Coach would be fired if he didn’t beat Genoa, so when going a goal behind twice amid a fan protest at the Stadio Olimpico, it was not looking good.

They fought back to win 3-2 with goals from Federico Fazio, Justin Kluivert and Bryan Cristante.
