EDF: 'Roma are still ill'

Eusebio Di Francesco explained he was less interested in Roma technique and talent against Genoa than determination. “We’re still a team that is ‘ill’ in a way.”

There were reports the Coach would be fired if he didn’t beat Genoa, so when going a goal behind twice amid a fan protest at the Stadio Olimpico, it was not looking good.

They fought back to win 3-2 with goals from Federico Fazio, Justin Kluivert and Bryan Cristante.

Zaniolo False 9 for Roma?

Eusebio Di Francesco is considering a Roma revamp to 3-4-3 with Nicolò Zaniolo as a False 9, dropping Patrik Schick to the bench.

The Giallorossi have been struggling badly in the absence of Edin Dzeko, Stephan El Shaarawy, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Daniele De Rossi.

Although De Rossi could be on the bench against Genoa on Sunday evening, he is probably not ready to start.

According to Il Romanista, Coach Di Francesco is testing out a 3-4-3 formation in training that would use a young front three of Cengiz Under, Zaniolo and Justin Kluivert.

Report: Samp want Schick back

Sampdoria reportedly want to bring Roma striker Patrik Schick back to the club in January.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Samp are ‘not abandoning’ the idea of a return for Schick and are ready to take him back on loan.

The Czech joined Roma from the Blucerchiati in the summer of 2017 for a club-record €42m, but he has struggled for form and fitness.

However, he did score 13 goals for Marco Giampaolo’s side during the 2016-17 campaign, while they could lose Fabio Quagliarella next month.

“I don’t have much to say,” Di Francesco said in his Press conference ahead of the Viktoria Plzen match.

“If I’m here it’s because others are aware that there’s a Coach with his ideas and his thinking.

Report: Roma eye three deals

Roma are reportedly looking to make as many as three signings in January to bolster their defence, midfield and attack.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma’s primary defensive target is Juventus stopper Daniele Rugani but failing that, they will go back in for Schalke’s Matija Nastasic.

Nastasic was heavily linked with the Giallorossi over the summer and has Serie A experience with Fiorentina, while he is ‘considered not irreplaceable’ by Schalke.

The philosophy of Roma v Inter

Roma and Inter's 2-2 draw on Sunday was more than a regular game, argues Andrea Tallarita, it was a contest of football philosophies.

It is only the tyranny of rational integers that let Roma and Inter walk away from their 2-2 draw on Sunday with a measly, dissatisfying one point apiece. Were teams rewarded in terms of the number of goals they scored, or for the spectacle, the effort, the hustle they bring to the pitch, the Giallorossi and the Nerazzurri would both have finished that day with three points or more.
