Llorente or Giroud for Inter role

Inter are seeking a low-cost understudy to Romelu Lukaku, with Fernando Llorente of Napoli now more likely than Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud.

There is still no centre-forward who covers the same characteristics as their Belgium international hitman.

Antonio Conte has made no secret of his desire to work with Giroud, who only recently signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge after he was on the verge of a January move to San Siro.

Giroud 'surprised' by Juventus reports

Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud was ‘surprised’ by reports linking him with Juventus. ‘It is a long way off the truth.’

Sky Sport Italia had suggested last night that Juve were keeping Giroud on the back-burner as a potential option after running into difficulties for Luis Suarez and Edin Dzeko.

It was claimed the deal could be done for €5m and that the striker had already agreed a two-year contract worth €4.5m per season.

Giroud or Kean while Juve wait for Suarez

While Juventus wait for Luis Suarez to terminate his Barcelona contract and get an Italian passport, they turn to Moise Kean on loan or Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud.

Suarez remains the first choice, but before he can make the move to Serie A, he needs to agree an exit by mutual consent with Barca.

Also, because the non-EU slots in the squad were completely filled when Weston McKennie moved from Schalke 04, they cannot sign another player from outside the European Union.

Roma ask after Kokorin

Roma are on red alert after reports Aleksandr Kokorin could leave Spartak Moscow just a month after arriving from Zenit.

The troubled 29-year-old striker spent some of last season on loan at Sochi, then was released by Zenit to join Spartak Moscow at the start of August.

Barely a month later, he is already thinking about a move elsewhere, with Sportitalia claiming there is a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for a minimal fee if a top five European league comes calling.

Roma consider Tadic and Giroud

Arkadiusz Milik is first choice for Roma to replace Edin Dzeko, but they are also considering Ajax striker Dusan Tadic and Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud.

The Giallorossi are part of a domino effect in the Italian transfer market, involving Dzeko to Juventus or Inter, which should bring in Milik from Napoli in exchange for Cengiz Under plus cash.

According to Calciomercato.it, there are other candidates in the running who could also arrive along with Milik.

Inter want €30m Emerson & Giroud?

Chelsea have rejected Inter’s offer of €20m for Emerson Palmieri, but the Nerazzurri are prepared to go to €30m if the deal includes Olivier Giroud.

Emerson is Inter’s first choice to bolster their left flank this summer, but Tuttosport warns he will not come cheap as Chelsea want €30m for the full-back.

However, the newspaper writes the Beneamata have revived their interest in Giroud and are prepared to meet the Blues’ asking price if the striker is included.

Inter and Lazio still going for Giroud

Inter, Lazio and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly not given up on Olivier Giroud even after his Chelsea contract extension.

The forward was going to be a free agent this summer and was very close to Inter in the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Express, signing a new one-year deal at Stamford Bridge has by no means secured his future, it just guaranteed Chelsea won’t lose him as a free agent.

Inter and Lazio are still ready to pursue the 33-year-old France international.

Tare: 'Knew Giroud wanted Chelsea stay'

As Olivier Giroud explains the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to his decision to stay at Chelsea, Lazio director Igli Tare admits he saw the renewal coming in January.

When talks with Inter broke down, Tare flew over to London on transfer deadline day in January in one last bid to get Giroud.

Instead, the forward has decided to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

“I simply seized my opportunity and I repaid the faith that the manager had shown in me,” Giroud told the club website.

Lazio and Inter transfer target Olivier Giroud has officially extended his Chelsea contract until June 2021. ‘I am delighted to continue my journey at Chelsea.’

The striker was going to be a free agent this summer and had been on the verge of a move to Inter in January, but it was abandoned because other deals did not go through.

Antonio Conte had been hoping for a reunion next season at San Siro, while Lazio were also known to be making a play for the 33-year-old.

Report: Chelsea extend Giroud deal

Chelsea have reportedly exercised their option to extend Olivier Giroud’s contract until 2021.

Giroud was due to become a free agent at the end of the season and only stayed put in January as Chelsea failed to source a replacement, amidst interest from Inter and Lazio.

However, Sky Sport Italia is now reporting the Blues have opted to prolong the striker’s deal, keeping him at Stamford Bridge for a further year.
