Simeone: 'Viola belief paid off'

Giovanni Simeone believes Fiorentina “hard work and belief paid off” with a late equaliser against Inter. “A defeat would’ve been unfair.”

The son of former Nerazzurri icon Diego Simeone scored in stoppages to cancel out a Mauro Icardi strike in tonight’s 1-1 draw.

“You must always believe, as when you push to the end, you can find a way through eventually,” Cholito told Mediaset Premium and Sky Sport Italia.

Simeone holds Inter in stoppages

Fiorentina wasted far too many scoring opportunities and eventually snatched a late point to hold Inter with Giovanni Simeone’s equaliser.

The Viola arguably dominated the match and certainly kept the momentum up throughout at the Stadio Franchi, but their finishing was dismal.

Cyril Thereau was guilty of missing two sitters, while Federico Chiesa and Giovanni Simeone also failed to get the best out of their chances.

Giovanni Simeone doesn’t think Inter are going through a crisis, and promises his father Diego will be their Coach “one day”.

The Fiorentina striker will face the Nerazzurri this weekend in the final match before the winter break, and the youngster is expecting a tough match.

“I don’t think they’re in difficulty,” Simeone warned, speaking to Premium Sport.

Giovanni Simeone says Fiorentina must believe they can beat Napoli after scoring in a 3-0 win over Sassuolo.

Today’s victory, their first in five Serie A matches, moved the Viola up to seventh in the table ahead of their trip to the San Paolo next week.

“My personal aim is to develop and to play,” Simeone told reporters after the match at the Artemio Franchi. “I am happy that at 22 I have played 50 games.

Simeone visits Fiorentina camp

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone visited his son, Fiorentina striker Giovanni Simeone, and had a long meeting with Stefano Pioli today.

Taking advantage of the break for international duty, the former Inter and Lazio player made the trip to Florence for a couple of days.

Cholo was given a tour of the Fiorentina training facilities and took selfies with his son’s teammates.

Sky Sport Italia report that Simeone also had a long talk with Viola Coach Pioli.

Simeone: ‘A lot to do’

Giovanni Simeone admits Fiorentina have a lot of work to do after today’s defeat at Chievo.

The forward, signed from Genoa in the summer, opened the scoring early on for the Viola but they were beaten by Lucas Castro’s double for the hosts.

“We still need to work a lot,” Simeone admitted post-match at the Bentegodi.

“That gives me strength, because the team knows it needs to improve and knows what it needs to do.

“We had different chances to finish the match off, then we relaxed and Chievo scored.

Pioli convinced of Viola growth
