Cagliari sign Simeone, lose Pavoletti

Cagliari have officially signed Fiorentina striker Giovanni Simeone on loan with obligation to buy but have lost Leonardo Pavoletti to a serious knee injury.

Cagliari deposited Simeone’s contract with Lega Serie A on Friday, having committed to purchasing the Argentine next summer for €16m.

The 24-year-old joined Fiorentina from Genoa in the summer of 2017 for €17m and scored 22 goals in two seasons, although he managed just six in Serie A last term.

Olsen and Simeone for Cagliari

Cagliari continue to reinforce their squad, as Robin Olsen and Giovanni Simeone will fly in to sign for the Sardinians tomorrow.

According to multiple sources, including Sky Sport Italia, they have agreed a dry loan for Roma goalkeeper Olsen.

He is called in as at least a temporary replacement for Alessio Cragno, who could be out for some time with a shoulder injury.

Cagliari had already out-bid Sampdoria for 24-year-old Fiorentina striker Simeone and he too is expected on Friday for a medical.

Fiorentina striker Giovanni Simeone has reportedly chosen to join Cagliari over Sampdoria.

Cagliari outbid Samp for Simeone

Cagliari have outbid Sampdoria for Giovanni Simeone, leaving the Fiorentina striker with a choice to make.

Simeone looked all set for Samp last night after they agreed a €15m deal for the Argentine.

However, Gianluca Di Marzio, Gazzetta dello Sport and Alfredo Pedulla all report Cagliari have come in with better offer.

Di Marzio and La Gazzetta state the Sardinians have bid €16m, €1m more than the Blucerchiati, while Pedulla claims the proposal is worth €17m - €3m higher than what their Serie A rivals tabled.

Rigoni and Simeone for Samp

Sampdoria are reportedly close to both Zenit’s Emiliano Rigoni and Fiorentina striker Giovanni Simeone, on loan with option to buy.

According to Sportitalia and Tuttomercatoweb, negotiations are down to the details for Rigoni following today’s meeting with the Russian club.

It would be a loan with option to buy, that becomes an obligation once he has played a certain number of games.

This is a return to Serie A after Rigoni’s disappointing six months with Atalanta last year.

De Paul set for Fiorentina

Fiorentina are on the verge of a €30m deal for Udinese star Rodrigo de Paul, with Giovanni Simeone or Marco Benassi possibly heading the other way.

Tuttomercatoweb and Sportitalia both report an agreement is close to being found for €25m plus €5m in bonuses.

However, they do not rule out a player being included in the transaction to possibly lower Fiorentina’s outlay.

The counterparts in question are Simeone and Benassi, although the former is rated difficult, whereas the latter could only move if Seko Fofana leaves Udinese.

Samp & Fiorentina to swap strikers?

Sampdoria and Fiorentina are reportedly considering a striker swap for Manolo Gabbiadini and Giovanni Simeone.

According to Sportitalia’s Alfredo Pedulla, the deal would satisfy both clubs as they look to move on their respective hitmen, while receiving ready-made replacements.

Simeone is free to leave Fiorentina this summer after a return of just six Serie A goals last season.

Gabbiadini, on the other hand, is no longer indispensable for Samp and is liked by Viola boss Vincenzo Montella.

Viola desperately seeking strikers

Fiorentina were the home of Gabriel Batistuta and Luca Toni, so Giancarlo Rinaldi finds their current crop of forwards a painful sight.

If real-life honeymoon periods lasted as long as their footballing equivalent, you would fear for many couples even making it up the steps to the airplane. Some would glance at William Hill bonus odds on a divorce during the exchange of vows. The glorious chanting at the arrival of new owner Rocco Commisso in Florence is already in danger of being drowned out by the grumbles about a lack of significant acquisitions. Whatever happened to for better, for worse?
