Yepes rules out South America return

Mario Yepes reveals that he has turned down several offers from South America, in order to stay in Europe.

The veteran defender’s contract with Atalanta expired this summer, but is in the sights of a number of teams after he impressed for Colombia at the World Cup.

And the centre-back has claimed that he wants to stay in Europe for family reasons.

Yepes 'keen on UK move'

Colombia captain Mario Yepes “is keen to end his career in the UK and we’re talking to several clubs.”

The 38-year-old defender is a free agent after his contract with Atalanta expired, but impressed at the World Cup in Brazil.

“I am already talking to several clubs who have shown an interest in Mario,” agent Gino Culbertson told Sky Sports.

Colombia without Falcao, Muriel

Colombia will be at the World Cup without Radamel Falcao, whilst Luis Muriel has also been cut from their squad.

Falcao had been working to regain full fitness in time to make this summer’s competition after suffering  a serious knee injury in January, but has been deemed not ready.

Udinese’s Luis Muriel and Cruz Azul’s Luis Perea were also confirmed as cut from the Coach’s provisional squad.

Mario Yepes is in optimistic mood ahead of Atalanta’s visit to struggling Milan on Monday.

“We know that playing against Milan is never easy for anybody, especially at their ground,” said the Colombian international.
