Milan back to square one

Milan fans and even Marco Giampaolo so disheartened by defeat to Udinese that they’re going back to the drawing board, writes Kaustubh Pandey.

Milan started the season with not so much a step backwards as a stumble and accidental backflip. Milan: Calhanoglu to replace Biglia?

Hakan Calhanoglu could replace Lucas Biglia as Milan’s ‘regista’ against Udinese on Sunday after the Argentine pulled up in training.

ANSA and Sportitalia both report Biglia picked up a problem in his left thigh and is a doubt for Milan’s Serie A opener this weekend.

If so, they speculate Calhanoglu will play as the deep-lying playmaker in midfield, with Lucas Paqueta and Fabio Borini flanking him.

Galatasaray or RB Leipzig for Calhanoglu

Milan are requesting €18-20m for Hakan Calhanoglu, with RB Leipzig and Galatasaray interested in the Turkey international.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, there is an increasing chance the 25-year-old midfielder will be on his way out of San Siro this summer.

He risks falling down the pecking order in new Coach Marco Giampaolo’s midfield, with the arrival of Ismael Bennacer and Rade Krunic from Empoli.

Calhanoglu is still eager to remain, but Milan are ready to listen to offers of €18-20m.
