Maldini Jr: 'Dream come true'

Daniel Maldini celebrated a “dream come true” after making his Serie A debut, becoming the third generation of Maldini to wear the Milan jersey.

The 17-year-old was a stoppage-time substitute in the 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona at San Siro on Sunday afternoon, following in the footsteps of father Paolo and grandfather Cesare.

“It was a dream come true, just a pity about the result,” creative midfielder Daniel told reporters.

Third generation of Maldini for Milan

Daniel Maldini has made his Serie A debut, the son of Paolo and grandson of Cesare marking the third generation of the family to play for Milan.

The 18-year-old creative midfielder came off the bench during stoppages in today’s 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona.

Born on October 11, 2001, Daniel is the youngest son of former Rossoneri captain and current club director Paolo.

He has an older brother, Christian, who is currently playing for Serie C side Pro Sesto.

Pioli: 'Maldini has quality'

Milan coach Stefano Pioli says his side lacked sharpness in front of goal and that Daniel Maldini “has quality’”.

The Rossoneri could only manage a 1-1 draw against Verona at San Siro, who also went down to ten men with the dismissal of Sofyan Amrabat deep into the second half.

“We suffered justly, because we conceded six shots on goal to Verona and we should’ve been more careful,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia following the game.

Sheva: 'Maldini true symbol of Milan'

Andriy Shevchenko named Paolo Maldini as the symbol of the club as it celebrates its 120th birthday. “He represented my Milan, but also Milan through the years.”

Sheva gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport and spoke about who he felt was the one player that symbolised the Rossoneri most.

“I would say Maldini because he represents my Milan, but has also Milan through the years.

Maldini: 'That 2005 Final...'

Paolo Maldini looked back over his Milan career and that infamous 2005 defeat to Liverpool. “I played eight Champions League Finals, but people only remember that one.”

The defender spent his whole life with a Rossoneri jersey on, as his father Cesare was the captain who lifted their first European Cup in 1963, also taking four Serie A titles, with Paolo following in his footsteps.

Now his two sons have come through the Milan academy, while Paolo returned as a director.

Maldini Jr: I dream of Italy

Daniel Maldini ‘dreams’ of emulating Milan legends Paolo and Cesare for Italy as he explains ‘seeing things before others’ is one of his strengths.

Maldini is currently with Italy’s Under-18 team after recently receiving his first-ever call-up on the back of his performances for Milan Primavera, which have yielded nine goals in 22 appearances this season.

“I’m very happy to be in the national team,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Maldini gets debut Italy call

Daniel Maldini, son of Paolo and grandson of Cesare, has received his first call-up for the Italy Under-18 squad.

The dynasty continues, because 17-year-old Daniel Maldini was added to the Azzurrini at Under-18 level for the friendly against the Netherlands on March 22.

Daniel is a forward who is currently playing for the Milan Primavera youth team, scoring an impressive nine goals in 22 competitive games this season.

This will be his first official match in an Italy jersey.

While his father Paolo and grandfather Cesare both lifted the European Cup/Champions League as defenders, Daniel is a forward.

He just turned 17 and showed impressive free kick skills while playing for the Milan Primavera youth team against Cagliari.

His father Paolo is now a director at Milan, so was in the stands in a professional capacity too.
