Juve: Can, Matuidi or Matic?

Juventus continue to seek alternatives to Steven N’Zonzi in midfield, including Blaise Matuidi, Emre Can and Nemanja Matic.

The Bianconeri want reinforcements in the middle of the park after losing the Champions League Final 4-1 to Real Madrid, ruining their hopes of a Treble.

N’Zonzi has emerged as the ideal candidate, but Sevilla will not budge from the €40m release clause in his contract.

Juve back in for Matuidi

Juventus are going back to Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi if they fail to tempt Steven N’Zonzi from Sevilla.

Bianconeri transfer guru Beppe Marotta confirmed interest in N’Zonzi, but Sevilla do not seem prepared to lower the €40m asking price.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the next name on the wish-list is Matuidi, who had already been very close to joining Juve last year.

Having just turned 30, the France international is slightly older than N’Zonzi, but also more experienced.

Inter meet for Matuidi?

Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio reportedly discussed Blaise Matuidi with agent Mino Raiola on Thursday, in addition to Kenny Tete.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter enquired about Matuidi’s availability, having conceded defeat in their attempts to sign Roma duo Radja Nainggolan and Kevin Strootman.

However, the newspaper warns the Nerazzurri are not prepared to match PSG’s asking price of €30m due to the Frenchman being 30.

Verratti partying ‘absolutely false’

Marco Verratti’s agent has threatened legal action after “absolutely false” claims that the midfielder partied just hours before Paris Saint-Germain’s capitulation.

L’Equipe reported Verratti and teammate Blaise Matuidi – formerly a Juventus target – were at a private nightclub on Monday night, 48 hours prior to PSG’s 6-1 thrashing by Barcelona in the Champions League last 16, but an angry Di Campli rubbished the story.

Matuidi: I spoke to Juventus

PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi admits that he spoke to Juventus 'more than once' before opting to remain with the Ligue 1 side.

A move seemed to be on the cards this summer, but no deal materialised and the France international remained in Paris.

"It is true, there was more than one contact with Juventus," the 29-year-old told BeIn Sports. "After the European Championships my agent and I had discussions with the club.

Juve must fix midfield madness

Juventus are typically quiet on the January transfer market, but Gaby McKay says they must bring in at least two midfielders this winter.

It was a rare misstep from the Juventus transfer wizards, Beppe Marotta and Fabio Paratici. Paul Pogba’s return to Manchester United was the worst-kept secret in football, and when he finally made the €105m move to Old Trafford on August 8, it was assumed that the Bianconeri had at least one replacement lined-up.

What followed was an uncharacteristically farcical quest for a central midfielder, made all the more surprising because it came from the team which secured Andrea Pirlo for free, Andrea Barzagli for €300,000 and Arturo Vidal for €10.5m.

Raiola: ‘Matuidi staying at PSG’

Blaise Matuidi’s agent, Mino Raiola, expects the Juventus target to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Bianconeri were close to signing the French international in the summer, but PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi pulled the plug.

Initially it appeared the midfielder would refuse to sign a new deal, potentially making the move to Turin in the summer of 2017.

However, speaking to Le Parisien, Matuidi’s representative appears to have changed his tune.

“Things are progressing naturally,” Raiola said.

The midfielder returned to Old Trafford for a fee of €105m this summer, but there has been confusion about his agent’s commission.

“He [Pogba] came from United for a price of around €1.5m,” Marotta explained to shareholders.
