Matuidi: ‘Ronaldo can bring CL’

Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi calls Cristiano Ronaldo “the best in the world” and believes “he’ll help us during the crucial moments of the season”.

The Bianconeri have been open about their ambition to win in Europe this season, and signed the competition’s all-time top goalscorer for €100m in the summer.

“Ronaldo has something different, we’re talking about someone who has won five Ballons d’Or,” Matuidi told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Matuidi: 'Juve will help Ronaldo'

Blaise Matuidi assured Juventus “can be competitive on all fronts” after a 2-1 win at Parma and will help Cristiano Ronaldo break his Serie A duck.

The Bianconeri saw Gervinho cancel out a Mario Mandzukic opener, but the Croatian then set up Matuidi’s winner with a back-heel flick assist.

“I am happy, as it wasn’t easy to play in this stadium in front of these passionate fans,” the World Cup winner told DAZN.

Nzonzi, Matuidi in France squad

Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi and Roma’s Steven Nzonzi have been called-up to the France squad for the first two Nations League matches.

Les Bleus won the World Cup last month, and unsurprisingly Coach Didier Deschamps had opted to keep faith with the squad which triumphed in Russia.

Of the 23 who went to the tournament, only Steve Mandanda is left out after suffering an injury, with Benoit Costil replacing him.

Nzonzi and Matuidi both retain their places, and Adil Rami is back in despite apparently retiring after the World Cup.

Juventus' Blaise Matuidi calls Cristiano Ronaldo “the best player on the planet” but jokes “he gets to share the dressing room with a world champion…”

The midfielder helped France to lift the trophy in Moscow at the weekend, and when he gets back to Juventus he’ll be playing with CR7.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player on the planet, knowing that he will play with us is great,” Matuidi told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Tuttosport: Pogba wants Juve return

Tuttosport claim Paul Pogba wants a return to Juventus just two years on from his €105m transfer to Manchester United.

According to the Turin-based newspaper, the World Cup winner is tired of life under Jose Mourinho and is ready to move on.

Much like when he left Juve for a return to Old Trafford in 2016, he is eager to stick with what he knows and that means the Bianconeri.

World Cup: Croatia can't stop France

Croatia dominated the World Cup Final for long periods, with Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic on target, but France won the trophy 4-2.

This was the first ever Final for Croatia, while Les Bleus hadn’t been here since losing to Italy in 2006 and star striker Kylian Mbappé was born the same year as their last victory in 1998.

Perisic shook off a thigh injury to start with Inter teammate Marcelo Brozovic, Juve’s Mandzukic and Milan full-back Ivan Strinic. Blaise Matuidi of Juve again played in a more advanced role.

World Cup: Perisic starts the Final

Ivan Perisic is passed fit to start for Croatia in the World Cup Final against Blaise Matuidi’s France.

The trophy is decided at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow at 16.00 UK time (15.00 GMT).

France sailed through relatively untroubled to the Final and are the favourites, even if it is their first World Cup Final since losing to Italy on penalties in 2006.

Kylian Mbappé is the star name to watch in attack with Antoine Griezmann and Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi in a more advanced role.

Serie A in World Cup Final

There are seven Serie A players participating in the World Cup Final between Croatia and France on Sunday.

This evening, Croatia beat England 2-1 in extra time to enter their first ever World Cup Final, as it was only their second semi-final after 1998.

Serie A figures were decisive, as Inter winger Ivan Perisic scored the equaliser and then nodded on a loose ball for Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic to finish it off.

World Cup: France in the Final

Samuel Umtiti’s header from a corner proved enough, as France ended Belgium’s 24-game unbeaten run and reached the World Cup Final.

It’s their first Final since losing the 2006 showdown to Italy on penalties, but in Moscow they’ll face either England or Croatia this weekend.

With Thomas Meunier suspended, Belgium brought in Nacer Chadli and again benched Dries Mertens, while France had Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi back from his ban to replace Corentin Tolisso.
