Donadoni hands Verdi armband

Roberto Donadoni reveals why Simone Verdi was wearing the captain’s armband as Bologna swept Benevento aside 3-0.

Blerim Dzemaili returned from a brief spell in MLS with Montreal Impact and was immediately on target in the 3-0 victory.

“We played well and it wasn’t easy against a Benevento side that was coming off two consecutive wins,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Sarri: 'Particularly enjoyable win'

Maurizio Sarri had a “particularly enjoyable” Napoli win over Atalanta and explained the Lorenzo Insigne touchline incident.

The Partenopei earned a 1-0 victory at the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia thanks to Dries Mertens, having been knocked out of the Coppa Italia by the Bergamo Boys earlier this month.

“Winning here is particularly enjoyable, because Atalanta always caused us problems and we know that we made our fans happy,” Sarri told Sky Sport Italia.

Tare: 'De Vrij clause valid in Italy'

Lazio director Igli Tare confirmed Stefan de Vrij is ready to sign a new contract, but the release clause “would be valid within and outside Italy.”

The defender’s current deal is due to expire in June and he has been heavily linked with the likes of Inter, Juventus, Napoli, Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

There are reports the new agreement will include a €25m release clause, but Tare made a crucial distinction.

Gasperini: 'A balanced encounter'

Atalanta Coach Gian Piero Gasperini saw “a very balanced encounter” in the 1-0 defeat to Napoli, but some issues with the offside technology.

A single goal from Dries Mertens decided the match at the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo.

“It was our first game after the break and we didn’t have the same stamina as usual, weren’t very sharp in attack and it was a very balanced encounter. It wasn’t easy for anyone,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

Mertens: 'Last season...'

Dries Mertens admits Napoli “probably wouldn’t have won this match last season” after a 1-0 victory away to Atalanta.

“We won and I scored, so it was just perfect!” the Belgian told Mediaset Premium in Bergamo.

Last term, Atalanta did the double over Napoli, but in 2017-18 there were two very slender successes.

Mertens ends Atalanta taboo

Dries Mertens ended his goal drought after 910 minutes of Serie A football to give Napoli a huge win away to their taboo team Atalanta.

The Partenopei keep their status at the top of the table and overcome probably the toughest fixture in their calendar, having lost three of their previous four meetings with Gian Piero Gasperini’s men.

Mertens hadn’t found the net in nine rounds and picked the perfect time to break that drought, as he let a Jose Callejon through ball bounce and smashed it on the half-volley from a tight angle.

Allegri: 'Juve chasing hare Napoli'

Max Allegri wants Juventus to focus on Genoa and keep putting together victories as they are “forced to chase the hare Napoli whizzing ahead.”

The Coach started off with some bad news, as Gigi Buffon is out of action and that means he cannot beat Paolo Maldini’s all-time Serie A appearance record.

Agent hints Verdi to Napoli in June

Simone Verdi refused a January transfer to Napoli in order to remain at Bologna, but his agent hints he’s got a deal in place for June.

The winger was seen as the number one choice to reinforce mid-season, having already worked with Coach Maurizio Sarri at Empoli, so his snub was a big surprise.

“It’s unacceptable to criticise a player who decides to conclude his growth process before joining a big club. He turned down the chance to triple his wages by giving an immediate response,” agent Giovanni Branchini told Radio Deejay.
