Azzurri Legends to play Germany

Francesco Totti, Fabio Cannavaro, Andrea Pirlo, Gennaro Gattuso and Gianluca Zambrotta will play for Azzurri Legends against Germany.

The friendly match between bygone stars will be at the Sportpark Ronhof in Fürth on October 7.

Many of these players faced off in the 2006 World Cup semi-final in Dortmund, which saw Italy emerge 2-0 winners in extra time with goals from Fabio Grosso and Alessandro Del Piero.

Euro 2020: Lukaku stars for Belgium

Romelu Lukaku starred during Belgium’s 4-0 victory over Scotland in Euro 2020 qualifying, but Marcelo Brozovic and Ante Rebic struggled for Croatia.

Croatia remain top of Group E but saw their lead cut to just one point after a 1-1 draw with Azerbaijan.

Inter midfielder Brozovic contributed with just a 21st-minute booking, while Milan new boy Rebic was substituted with four to go.

Casarin: 'Handball rule unreasonable'

Former referee Paolo Casarin blasted the new handball rules and increased use of VAR. “Reason is dying in football and the referee is being delegitimised, but we must stop play for racist abuse.”

The changes to the handball interpretation has to all intents and purposes ruled out the difference between a voluntary block and involuntary ricochet.

“I saw the penalty they gave against Matthijs de Ligt,” Casarin wrote in the Corriere dello Sport, referring to the Euro 2020 qualifier between the Netherlands and Germany.

Italy: Grifo replaces Cristante

Vincenzo Grifo has completed a return to Freiburg and replaced Roma midfielder Bryan Cristante in the Italy squad.

Grifo made his name at Freiburg, scoring 23 goals and providing 26 assists for the German side between 2015 and 2017.

The 26-year-old spent the second half of last season at the Bundesliga outfit, netting six times in 16 appearances, and he is back on a permanent basis.

It gets even better for the winger as he has also taken Cristante’s place in the Italy squad after the Roma man pulled out with a fever.

U21 Euro: Fabian wins it for Spain

Spain have won the 2019 European U21 Championships, beating holders Germany 2-1 in the Final, with Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz on target and named Player of the Tournament.

La Rojita gained revenge for the 2017 Final and have now equalled Italy as the most successful nation in the tournament’s history with five trophies.

Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring with a left-foot scorcher from distance, while Dani Olmo doubled their tally after the break.

Fabian Ruiz: 'Dream of Napoli and Spain wins'

Fabian Ruiz “dreams of winning the Scudetto” with Napoli as well as the U21 European Championship tonight against Germany.

Spain take on the holders Germany tonight in the U21 European Championship Final at the Dacia Arena in Udine.

The 23-year-old has been putting in some impressive performances for the Spanish during their run to the final, while he also made his debut for the senior Spain team against the Faroe Islands at the start of the month.

Inter & Spurs in for German?

Inter and Tottenham Hotspur are both reportedly keen on signing Werder Bremen captain Max Kruse this summer.

According to Sky Sport Deutschland, Inter and Spurs both hold ‘serious interest’ in Kruse, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

The broadcaster adds the 31-year-old would be interested in either move, given the two clubs are on course to qualify for the 2019-20 Champions League.

The second striker has scored nine goals and provided 12 assists for Bremen this season, while he has 14 caps for Germany.

Schulz: Inter my dream club

Germany hero Nico Schulz - who is of Italian extraction - has confessed that Inter are ‘the club of my dreams’.

Schulz’s biological father was born on the Italian island of Ischia near Naples, but the Hoffenheim left-back was on hand to Germany’s late winner against Netherlands in a 3-2 victory on Sunday.

Nonetheless, the 25-year-old told t-online: “I’d like to play for a European top club one day.

“There are some extraordinary teams that play in the Champions League every year.
