World Cup: Brazil through to quarters

Brazil are through to face Belgium or Japan in the World Cup quarter-finals, after beating Mexico 2-0 in Samara.

The Selecao finished ahead of Switzerland and Serbia to top Group E, while a final day loss to Sweden saw Mexico fall to runners-up in Group F.

It was the Central American side who started the better though, with Inter defender Miranda forced to block from Hirving Lozano after fine work from Andres Guardado.

Layun: 'Pity for Roma'

Miguel Layun said it’s “a pity Roma won’t be in the Champions League,” but Porto kept their heads in the play-off.

The Giallorossi had three men sent off over the two legs, losing 4-1 on aggregate.

“We knew it would be a tough tie and it’s a pity a big team like Roma won’t be in the Champions League, but the truth is we had the intelligence to come here and grab a win,” said Layun.
