Mancini: Big hopes for Italy stars

Roberto Mancini is expecting big things from Italian players this season but has warned Mario Balotelli to get his act together at Brescia.

Mancini rated members of his Italy squad in the second part of his Gazzetta dello Sport interview, including ‘extraordinary’ Inter pair Stefano Sensi and Nicolo Barella, Federico Bernardeschi – who can become ‘one of the best’ – and ‘potential superstar’ Nicolo Zaniolo.

Sensi-ble Inter investment

Inter have already made their best buy of the season and Football Italia’s Chief Correspondent Richard Hall assures it’s Stefano Sensi.

Much of the Nerazzurri faithful must feel like it’s Groundhog Day. As they gesticulate over the Gazzetta Dello Sport whilst having their morning espressos in many of Milan’s Piazzas, it could have been any day from the last month. Why? Barella: Inter or nothing

Nicolo Barella has revealed that he would have stayed at Cagliari if a move to Inter did not happen.

Barella was courted by Napoli in January, while Roma were hoping to capitalise on the protracted nature of Inter’s negotiations with Cagliari.

However, the midfielder ultimately joined the Nerazzurri in a €50m deal and he is delighted to be at the disposal of Antonio Conte. 

“Conte called me while I was on holiday and it was gratifying,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

Zola: 'Lukaku ideal for Inter'

Gianfranco Zola believes Romelu Lukaku is “ideal for Antonio Conte’s Inter” and Nicolò Barella can be the new Dejan Stankovic.

The former Cagliari, Parma and Chelsea legend is fresh from his experience as assistant manager to Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

He was therefore up against Manchester United hitman Lukaku, who has been valued at over €80m.

Barella: Inter the 'best club'

Nicolo Barella believes Inter are the 'best club' he could have joined as they match his level of 'ambition'.

Inter fans will be able to get their first glimpse of Barella in the Far East, where they are based for the International Champions Cup, following his €50m transfer from Cagliari.

“I feel very good, Inter really wanted me and I'll try to repay their faith in me,” the midfielder said at a Press conference.

Barella: 'A new chapter begins'

Nicolò Barella said an emotional goodbye to hometown club Cagliari after his transfer to Inter. “I tried to honour the shirt with all my strength, and I think that I achieved that.”

The move was completed for a total of €40m plus €10m in various bonuses and add-ons, although technically it is a loan with obligation to buy, allowing them to spread the payments out.

Cagliari eye Barella replacements

Cagliari sold Nicolò Barella to Inter, so are now in talks for Boca Juniors midfielder Nahitan Nandez and Napoli’s Marko Rog.

Barella completed his transfer on Friday evening for €40m (spread out over two years) plus another €10m in various bonuses and add-ons.

The Sardinians need a replacement and Sky Sport Italia claim they are in negotiations with Boca Juniors for Nandez.

Official: Barella joins Inter

Nicolò Barella is officially a new Inter player after completing his transfer from Cagliari for a reported €50m, formally a loan with obligation to buy.

The Italy international midfielder had his medical today and signed the five-year contract, believed to be worth €2.5m per season.

It’s reported the cost of the operation ultimately €50m, but spread out via a loan deal with obligation to buy and various bonuses.

Barella has Inter medical

Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella has arrived for his medical ahead of a €45m transfer to Inter.

Barella passed the first part of his medical at Humanitas clinic in Rozzano on Friday morning and checked into the Italian Olympic Committee offices in Milan for the second round of tests.

He will then be able to sign his contract with Inter before being confirmed as their fourth summer signing after Diego Godin, Valentino Lazaro and Stefano Sensi.

Inter confirm Lukaku approach

Inter have confirmed that they have made ‘an official approach’ for Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku.

Inter officials travelled to England for talks with United, who reportedly quoted them an asking price of €85m.

Sporting director Piero Ausilio was among the Nerazzurri’s entourage as they landed back in Milan on Thursday evening.

“We had a meeting with Manchester United for Lukaku,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
