Tommasi: 'Ritiros need scrapping'

Players’ chief Damiano Tommasi feels the time has come for clubs to scrap midseason retreats and saw nothing wrong with Antonio Conte’s comments.

Napoli were sent into ‘ritiro’ as punishment for their recent poor form but instead went against the wishes of President Aurelio De Laurentis, going straight home after their 1-1 draw with RB Salzburg on Tuesday.

That has left the club in a tense situation, but Tommasi disagreed the Partenopei acted unsportingly, instead calling for an end to punitive training camps.

Conte: 'Borussia scared of Inter'

Antonio Conte said Borussia Dortmund “were afraid of us and changed their system” at San Siro, but Inter kept their Champions League campaign alive.

Lautaro Martinez and Antonio Candreva decided the 2-0 result with a goal in either half.

“Borussia Dortmund changed their system to five at the back, which means they were afraid of us and wanted to play by changing their approach to mirror ours,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Mancini: 'Italy aim to win Euro 2020'

Roberto Mancini confirmed either Federico Chiesa or Federico Bernardeschi will start against Greece tonight, while advising how to get the best out of Lorenzo Insigne.

Italy’s Euro 2020 qualifier kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

It had been suggested that the only real doubt was between Nicolò Barella and Bernardeschi in midfield of a 4-3-3.

However, Mancini told Rai Sport the final choice to be made was between Bernardeschi and Chiesa, which would put them in the trident attack.

Italy's midfield renaissance

Italy can rely on an array of Azzurri alternatives in midfield and build a team around these talents, explains Kaustubh Pandey.

The future of the Nazionale will be built around the extraordinary new crop of emerging midfield talent, as young faces combine with the not exactly old guard to give Roberto Mancini an array of options.

It isn’t reminiscent of the old Italian midfield, which had Andrea Pirlo, Rino Gattuso and Claudio Marchisio in it, but it is now ready to carve out a reputation of its own. There also seems to be a balance and quality of depth to it.

Barella: 'We came here to play'

Nicolò Barella confirms Antonio Conte told Inter they “came here to play and wanted to win,” so a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona is “disappointing.”

Conte machine crushes Milan

After four rounds, Inter already look like a well-oiled Antonio Conte machine, writes Kaustubh Pandey, but Milan are just going through the motions.

The Derby della Madonnina came early in a season with two new Coaches, but Inter are already leaving Milan in their dust.

The Nerazzurri had a clear plan in mind from the very first minute. They gave the impression of certainty in everything they did. As Milan looked to keep possession and build from the back every single time, Inter launched an aggressive press on them. And it became obvious from the first 10 minutes that Marco Giampaolo had fielded some players who were too static for what is supposed to be a dynamic system on and off the ball.
