Lazio have what Milan need

The elements that allowed Lazio to conquer San Siro after 30 years are also what Milan lack the most, notes Marcello Cossali-Francis.

Yes, they lost and yes, everything seemed to go wrong in the final 15 minutes, but there are signs that this Milan side is capable of good things. The results might not be any better than under Marco Giampaolo, but the performances are most definitely an improvement.

Milan: Spain leave out Suso

Spain have called up Pau Lopez, Luis Alberto and Fabian Ruiz for upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers but left out Milan attacker Suso.

Lopez, Fabian and Luis Alberto have been rewarded for their strong starts to the season, the latter earning a recall after five assists in just seven games for Lazio.

However, Suso is omitted after a meagre return of no goals and just the one assist, having struggled in his new position of Milan No 10.

Elsewhere, former Napoli defender Raul Albiol is included after helping Villarreal to three wins in their last four matches.

No substitute for squad depth

Game management and having options off the bench proved decisive in the Europa League for Lazio and Roma, writes Sam Wilson.

Squad rotation is essential in the Europa League, as Lazio turned the game with Rennes around thanks to options off the bench, whereas injury-hit Roma lacked alternatives against Wolfsberg.

Lazio had a game of two halves against Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais. Simone Inzaghi elected to start with a relatively half-strength side and the absences of key creators Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luis Alberto were felt for most the game, the Biancocelesti failing to create any real scoring opportunities before the duo entered the fray.

Luis Alberto a shining light

Luis Alberto played a key role during Lazio's 1-1 draw with Roma in the Derby della Capitale. Football Italia's Chief Correspondent Richard Hall thinks it's time we showed him more respect.

The Derby della Capitale is always a heated affair and one that is often tense. These games are either wide open and allow a plethora of chances or they are tight and cagey affairs. From the Capital of Italy, the Biancocelesti will take on the Giallorossi in Week 2 of the 2019-20 Serie A season. This will be the 151st time that they will meet at the Stadio Olimpico since the inauguration of the Italian top-flight in 1929. While Simone Inzaghi’s side started off their campaign with flying colours, crushing Sampdoria 3-0 at Marassi, Paulo Fonseca’s team dropped a lead three times for their six-goal thriller with Genoa.

Sevilla 'press for Luis Alberto'

Sevilla are reportedly keen on signing Lazio attacking midfielder Luis Alberto, who is valued at €25m.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira, Sevilla are ‘pressing’ for Luis Alberto.

Schira adds Lazio are prepared to do business with the Spaniards, providing they receive €25m.

That would constitute a significant profit for the Aquile, who paid Liverpool only €4m to sign him in 2016.

The 26-year-old failed to replicate his 2017-18 form last season, scoring just six goals in all competitions.
