Ronaldo faces Champions League past

If Juventus do qualify for the Champions League Final Eight, Cristiano Ronaldo will be up against either Real Madrid or Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

The Bianconeri still need to overturn the 1-0 first leg Round of 16 defeat to Olympique Lyonnais in Turin.

After that, they’d be paired in the quarter-final with either Ronaldo’s old club Real Madrid or his former bitter Barcelona rival Guardiola, now in charge of Manchester City.

PSG have never beaten Italians in UCL

Atalanta have every reason to feel confident, because Paris Saint-Germain have never beaten an Italian club in the Champions League.

The teams were paired together in the quarter-final of the Champions League, which under the new Final Eight format, will be a one-off clash on neutral turf in Portugal.

It’s the first ever Champions League campaign for Atalanta, but history is on their side anyway.

CL Draw: Atalanta-PSG, Juve nightmare, Napoli-Bayern

Atalanta will face PSG in the Champions League quarter-finals, while Juventus are paired with Real Madrid or Manchester City and Napoli with Bayern Munich if they get through.

The draw for the Champions League Final Eight was made today in Lisbon, which is also where all those fixtures will be staged in August.

Following the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the format was changed to a mini-tournament of one-off matches on neutral turf.

The kick-off times for these are all 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

Osimhen agent: 'If Napoli promises kept...'

Victor Osimhen’s brother-in-law insists the Lille forward ‘has just asked for a little time’ to give his answer. ‘If, and only if, what Napoli promised is real, then it could be a good project for him.’

The forward visited the club headquarters, training ground and even President Aurelio De Laurentiis, but the days pass and there is still no word on his decision.

“The negotiations are continuing, while we wait for Victor’s response,” representative Osita Okolo told Radio Punto Nuovo.

Milan regretting Gattuso mistake

Seeing the progress that Gennaro Gattuso has made with Napoli, Lee Bushe feels Milan will regret letting Rino go so easily.

On Sunday evening, Gennaro Gattuso will face Milan as an opponent for the first time in his coaching career. It’s not just any game, as his Napoli are direct competitors for fifth place and a reminder of how little his old club has genuinely progressed since he left.

Going into the final game of last season, Milan stood their best chance of the qualifying for the Champions League since the Max Allegri era ended four-and-half-years earlier. All they needed was to beat SPAL and hope that one of Inter or Atalanta dropped points.

Awaiting Champions and Europa draws

Atalanta, Juventus and Napoli are waiting to see what the Champions League Final Eight draw holds for them, while Inter and Roma are in the Europa League.

Both UEFA competitions were suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of time to complete them prompted a change of format.

There will now be a Final Eight mini-tournament of knockout games in August, with the Champions League hosted in Portugal, and the Europa League in Germany.

Malago wants fans back 'as soon as possible'

CONI President Giovanni Malago claims the low TV ratings in Italy are due to the lack of people in the stands and hopes to see fans in the stadium before the season is over.

Serie A has been carried out behind closed doors since the resumption and Malago thinks it has affected the viewer numbers.

He spoke at the Educamp presentation and his words were picked up by TMW: “For months they have thought us to respect the indications of the Technical and Scientific Commission (CTS).

Highlights: Genoa 1-2 Napoli

Napoli came away from Marassi with all three points thanks to Dries Mertens and Hirving Lozano goals, after Edoardo Goldaniga’s temporary Genoa equaliser.

The Partenopei tested Mattia Perin several times as well, not to mention an Eljif Elmas goal disallowed for handball, but the hosts also hit the woodwork with Francesco Cassata.

Mertens added to his tally as the all-time top Napoli goalscorer, curling in from the edge of the box.
