Report: Tottenham and Everton in race for Milik

Arkadiusz Milik is reportedly not willing to join Juventus as a free agent at the end of the season as he wants to leave Napoli in January with Tottenham and Everton interested.

As Fabrizio Romano reports on Calciomercato.com, the Poland striker reached an agreement with Juventus long time ago but he is not eager to wait until the end of the season to join the Old Lady as a free agent.

The contract of the Napoli striker expires in June and there is no chance he can sign a new deal with the Partenopei.

Report: Gattuso close to Napoli contract extension

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gennaro Gattuso will sign a new contract with Napoli by Christmas.

Gattuso’s current agreement with Napoli expires at the end of the season and according to the report, the 42-year-old will pen a new two-year deal with the San Paolo hierarchy worth €1.9m-a-year.

The two parties have almost reached a total agreement after that Aurelio De Laurentiis agreed to lower a €7m clause which he would have liked to have included in the new contract if the relationship between the parties had been cut short.

New COVID clampdown on sport

COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Italy, so Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte ordered new limits on sport, playing games behind closed doors again.

The Serie A fixtures had been allowed up to 1,000 supporters in the stands so far this season, but from next weekend, it will go back to a totally empty arena.

Conte presented the latest Government decree on Saturday evening, which will shut down all amateur sport.

Only Serie A, B, C and D clubs can continue in the world of football.

Elmas and Zielinski free of COVID

Napoli have announced that Eljif Elmas and Piotr Zielinski have tested negative for COVID-19, so could potentially be available this weekend.

The pair of midfielders tested positive on the eve of their cancelled trip to Juventus, on October 2 and 3.

They had tested positive repeatedly over the last three weeks, but have now posted negative results.

Before being allowed to play in Serie A, they must first undergo a Lega Serie A sanctioned physical test to confirm there are no lingering complications from the virus.

Insigne brothers battle for supremacy

Antonio Insigne, older brother of both Napoli captain Lorenzo and Benevento forward Roberto, jokes he’s the ‘real talent in the family!’

There are four Insigne brothers and all of them play football at various levels, but two of them will go head-to-head on Sunday when Napoli visit Benevento in Serie A.

“I am three years older than Lorenzo and six older than Roberto. Both of them only really started to gain interest in football after watching me,” Antonio Insigne told Il Mattino newspaper.

After impressing so much at the weekend when they pummelled Atalanta 4-1 at the San Paolo, expectations were high heading into Napoli’s Europa League fixture with AZ Alkmaar.

Unfortunately for coach Gennaro Gattuso and his men, the Eredivisie side did not read the script and shocked the Azzurri by snatching a 1-0 win.

Gattuso doubt for Benevento match

Gennaro Gattuso could miss tomorrow’s Serie A match with Benevento, as the Napoli coach is suffering from flu symptoms, but is negative for COVID-19.

According to Tuttosport, the tactician had a very sore throat and was running a temperature after Thursday’s Europa League defeat to AZ Alkmaar.

He feared that he had contracted COVID-19, but the swab came back negative.

Nonetheless, Gattuso still does not feel well and if the situation doesn’t improve, he could miss tomorrow’s Serie A match against Benevento.

Giuntoli: 'Gattuso happy at Napoli'

Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli said the Partenopei are ‘very happy’ with coach Gennaro Gattuso. ‘An agreement for the renewal can be found’.

The former Milan coach replaced Carlo Ancelotti in December 2019 and helped Napoli finish seventh in Serie A last term.

Napoli worked hard on the transfer market this term and Gattuso’s men have won three out of three games played but lost 3-0 by default to Juventus.
