Schmidt: 'Osimhen a great athlete'

Former Wolfsburg coach Martin Schmidt believes Victor Osimhen will ‘settle quickly’ at Napoli and said his former pupil ‘is a great athlete’.

The 21-year-old, who is set to sign for Napoli this summer, arrived at Wolfsburg in January 2017 and only played 16 games for the Bundesliga side before moving to RSC Charleroi.

Osimhen arrived from Belgium to Ligue 1 last summer and has impressed in France, but Schmidt doesn’t seem surprised.

Antonio Conte has claimed Inter ‘deserved more’ from their cup tie with Napoli, stressed Romelu Lukaku ‘must improve’ and confirmed that Stefano Sensi will be out for the rest of the Serie A campaign.

Inter face Napoli in Serie A tomorrow and the tight schedule has made it difficult to recover and keep the high intensity in recent games. But Conte has found some positives too.

Fassone: 'Juve leverage to win'

Former Milan CEO Marco Fassone has claimed Juventus have the upper hand on Napoli due to their ownership and infrastructure, claiming the Partenopei must build their own sports centre to compete in the long run.

Fassone spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli and discussed the different leadership styles between the Azzurri patron Aurelio De Laurentiis and Bianconeri chief Andrea Agnelli.

“Juventus have the longest-running owner of our League,” Fassone told Radio Kiss Kiss. “They have an owner that will invest massively when he must do so.

Gravina is worried for 2020-21

The FIGC President Gabriele Gravina admits he’s worried for the next season, as Serie A still waits ‘to understand the new protocol’.

Serie A has resumed under strict measures and continuous testing of everyone involved, but Gravina hopes to avoid the same ‘demanding’ protocol for 2020-21.

“The teams must start the preparation very soon and we are late in knowing the new procedures to follow,” Gravina told Rai Gr Parlamento. “We don’t know the state of emergency or for how long it will be extended.

Ancelotti: 'Sarri deserves Juve'

Carlo Ancelotti has claimed Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri did an ‘excellent job’ in leading Juventus to their ninth consecutive title. ‘He deserves to be at a big club’.

Banega sparks COVID controversy

Just days before Sevilla face Roma in the Europa League, Ever Banega caused controversy by partying without a mask in a COVID-19 hotspot.

The midfielder was caught on camera by Onda Cero dancing at a nightclub in Valencia.

This particular club has been linked with 12 cases of Coronavirus, so Banega’s presence when he is meant to be following safety protocols sparked controversy in Spain.

Roma are due to play Sevilla in a one-off match on neutral turf in Germany on August 6.

Fight for Europa League intensifies

Napoli, Roma and Milan have already qualified for the Europa League, but there is a very big difference between fifth and sixth place.

Gennaro Gattuso’s men won the Coppa Italia, beating Juventus on penalties in the Final last month, and have therefore got their spot in the group phase of the Europa League locked down.

Roma and Milan are now in a battle for fifth place, which provides some large benefits compared to sixth.

The Rossoneri have a superior head-to-head record, so if they were to finish level on points, Milan would go in front.

Napoli flying the flag

Napoli showed a sharp offside trap can be crucial, but it’s a risky game to play against Sassuolo, let alone Barcelona, writes Owen Diana.

Gennaro Gattuso painted the Saturday night match as a test for the upcoming Champions League Round of 16, pointing to the similarities in playing style between Roberto De Zerbi’s Sassuolo and Barcelona. It was a stretch, but had some truth to it, so we might see the Napoli offside trap play a crucial part at Camp Nou.
