'FIGC right to investigate Atalanta'

Minister Vincenzo Spadafora has commended the FIGC for investigating Atalanta’s team manager after he discriminated against a Napoli fan.

Last week was not a good week for Italian sport in its fight against discrimination, starting with Paralympic athlete Beatrice Ion.

Ion, who plays for Italy’s wheelchair basketball team and is of Romanian extract, was racially abused by a passer-by, while her father was assaulted for trying to defend her.

Serie A: 'We want fans back'

Lega Serie A says it is ‘hopeful’ stadiums will be partially reopened to fans before the end of the season.

All 20 Serie A clubs held an assembly meeting today and the first topic of discussion was Sky’s refusal to pay its last instalment of TV rights money for 2019-20, in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

ADL: 'Napoli a Euro machine'

Patron Aurelio De Laurentiis has praised Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso’s personality and claimed the Partenopei are currently ‘recovering from the incident’ under Carlo Ancelotti earlier this term.

During the press conference regarding the new pre-season retreat in Castel di Sangro, the Azzurri President pointed out that his side are currently recovering from an unfortunate incident at the start of the season.

New season too early for ADL

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis feels the 2020-21 season should start on October 4, can't confirm if Lille forward Victor Osimhen will be a part of the pre-season retreat but says Gennaro Gattuso will 'obviously' stay in charge.

The Partenopei patron is not completely satisfied with starting the next season as early as September 12, pointing out that there’s no time to rest the players.

The Partenopei, playing at home and high on confidence after a recent upturn in results, were not about to just let an in-form Rossoneri come into their home and dictate the play, no matter how much their manager Rino Gattuso had connections with the Lombard team. They pressed, harried and created chances that had Gigio Donnarumma being forced into save after save.

Report: Napoli prepare five-year deal for Fabian

Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz has been targeted by the two Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, reportedly prompting the Partneopei to offer him a new five-year contract.

Journalist Nicolò Schira claims the Spanish midfielder looks set to remain at the San Paolo, as his current contract negotiations are heading in the right direction for the Azzurri.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have not hidden the fact that the Spain international is an interesting target this summer, with the former Real Betis man continuing to impress for the Partenopei.

Koulibaly: 'VAR must help us'

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has claimed it ‘didn’t look like a penalty’ as Milan picked up a point at the San Paolo and encouraged the Partenopei to ‘keep working like we are doing’.

Franck Kessie equalised from the penalty spot, as Milan came back to claim a point in Naples on Sunday  

After the match, Koulibaly claimed it’s ‘difficult’ for defenders to avoid giving away penalties in Serie A and calls for VAR to ‘help us’.

Gattuso: 'Napoli don't score enough'

Gennaro Gattuso believes the current penalty rules are not fit for purpose, but was angrier with Napoli for ‘scoring too few goals and conceding too many’ against Milan.

This was the first time Gattuso had faced his former club as a coach, having spent so many years there as both player and tactician, but he put emotions aside for an entertaining 2-2 draw.

“It was my first time facing Milan, the club that made me a player, a man and of course it was an emotional moment.”
