Maggio applauds Prandelli stance

Christian Maggio applauds Italy boss Cesare Prandelli's approach of calling only those who play regularly.

“Prandelli is absolutely right, as only by performing to a high standard regularly for your club can you earn the right to be called up for international duty,” said the Napoli winger.

“This is why I think I will always choose a team that allows me to play regularly, otherwise I'd miss out on opportunities like this.”

De Sanctis keeps Napoli intact

Napoli goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis is confident that “Marek Hamsik is untouchable. You'll see, none of the big names will leave.”

The Partenopei secured a place in the Champions League group phase for next season by finishing third in Serie A, but have been beset by transfer speculation.

“President Aurelio De Laurentiis was right in saying Hamsik is untouchable. We have many great gems and you'll see that none of the big names will leave,” De Sanctis told Sky Sport Italia.

Napoli confused by Matavz U-turn

Even the FIFA agent for Tim Matavz can't figure out where the move to Napoli went wrong. “Groningen changed the cards on the table.”

It was widely believed the striker would make the transfer to the San Paolo this summer after a January switch went past the deadline, but on Friday Groningen announced he would remain for another season.

“I too read the statement on the Groningen website,” agent and intermediary Nusret Jashari told Tuttonapoli.net.

Inler's wife snubs Napoli for Juve?

The reports that Juventus will snatch Gokhan Inler away from Napoli gain credence. “His wife would prefer Turin.”

The Udinese midfielder is one of those expected to be sold over the summer, even though his club are in the Champions League preliminary round.

Up until recently it was thought he was very close to joining Napoli, but the Bianconeri have made a sudden interception.

“I am not in contact with Napoli,” agent Dino Lamberti told Tuttosport newspaper.

Mazzarri: 'Napoli bond is stronger'

After threatening to walk away, Walter Mazzarri assures the rapport with Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis “has been strengthened.”

The Coach publicly declared he might not stay next season and some suggest he had been sacked for this statement, but a meeting this week managed to calm the situation.

“I just needed to hear from the club,” Mazzarri told Radio Marte. “In a year many things happen in such an important arena, so at the end of the season you need to clear the air.

Will Juve swoop for Inler?

Reports in Italy are gathering pace that Juventus have hijacked Napoli's move for Gokhan Inler.

The Azzurri and Udinese had seemingly agreed terms for the Swiss international, but Juve may have convinced the player to join them instead.

The midfielder's agent yesterday suggested that an Italian giant wanted the player and it is believed that Juve are that club – even if the representative didn't reveal the name of the interested party.

However, Groningen released an official statement late Friday night declaring that Matavz is off the market.

“The desire of the player to stay with Groningen proved decisive. Negotiations with Napoli have been completely interrupted.”

Inler to Napoli gets messy

Gokhan Inler's agent has denied reports that his client's proposed move from Udinese to Napoli will not happen.

Dino Lamberti was quoted by some media as saying that the midfielder would not be signing for the San Paolo outfit because he'd already agreed to join another Italian team.

However, contacted by CalcioNapoli24.it, the representative has given his version of the situation.

"The things I have been reading in the newspapers are not true," Lamberti noted. "I never said that Inler would not be joining Napoli.
