'Cavani believes in Scudetto'

Edinson Cavani believes Napoli can win the Scudetto this season, according to the player's agent Claudio Anellucci.

Napoli currently lie third in Serie A just three points behind League leaders Milan in the final stretch of the campaign.

"Cavani believes in the Scudetto," Anellucci told Radio Mana Mana. "Napoli have to believe. A season like this is unrepeatable.

"Walter Mazzarri values Cavani a lot. Everyone believes in the Scudetto, above all Edinson."

De Sanctis deserved Italy call

Napoli legend Pino Tagliatella believes that Morgan De Sanctis' form should have been recognised by Italy boss Cesare Prandelli.

The Azzurri tactician ignored the Napoli 'keeper for the game against Slovenia tomorrow night, instead calling up Gigi Buffon, Emiliano Viviano and Salvatore Sirigu.

"Morgan is in better form than Buffon, even if Gigi remains the best in the world, " Tagliatella noted. "Behind him the Coach has decided to focus on players for the future.

English giants to bid for Napoli duo

Napoli duo Ezequiel Lavezzi and Marek Hamsik are attracting significant interest from the Premier League, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Both players have been truly instrumental in turning Napoli into title challengers this season and a place in next year's Champions League looks assured.

La Gazzetta understands that Roberto Mancini's Manchester City have been regularly watching Lavezzi perhaps with a view to a bid in the summer.

Cavani becomes a father

Napoli striker Edinson Cavani became a father earlier today when his wife gave birth to a baby boy.

The Uruguay international has been dedicating his recent goals to his son.

Already nicknamed the 'mini-Matador' Cavani has called the baby Bautista.

If Cavani scores when Napoli face Lazio on April 3, it's thought he will emulate Bebeto and do a 'cradle rocking' celebration.

Cavani has found the net on 22 occasions in Serie A, equaling a club record held by Antonio Vojak who reached the same total in the 1932-33 season.

Cavani Madrid rumours not Real

Edinson Cavani's agent has rubbished suggestions that the Napoli striker is wanted by Real Madrid.

Cavani has been linked with the Liga giants after a goal-packed campaign at the San Paolo following his summer switch from Palermo.

However, speaking with Radio CRC, Claudio Anellucci dismissed the notion that an offer from Spain had been tabled.

"It is nice to hear praise from a Coach such as Jose Mourinho, but there has been no offer," he stated.

Gargano leaves Napoli camp

Walter Gargano has left the Napoli camp ahead of tonight's game due to family issues, confirmed the club.

The Uruguayan midfielder was released from duty this morning because of undisclosed family matters.

The 26-year-old will therefore be unavailable for tonight's Serie A match against Cagliari.

There were reports Gargano would've been on the bench anyway, but he will return to Naples after international duty with Uruguay.

Cavani: 'Napoli close to a dream'

Edinson Cavani feels his goals are “bringing Napoli closer to a dream, because you never know in football,” and explained his odd celebratory dance.

The Uruguayan hadn't netted for six games, but broke that drought with a brace to sink Cagliari 2-1.

That result puts the Partenopei just three points adrift of leaders Milan and right back in the Scudetto race.

“We wanted this victory very much, as it is bringing Napoli closer to a dream. You never know in football.

Mazzarri: 'It'd be a crime to mess up now'

Walter Mazzarri urged Napoli to ignore the Serie A table. “We put pressure on ourselves and it'd be a crime to mess up the last few games.”

The Vesuviani are within three points of leaders Milan and, considering the Derby della Madonnina is next week, could find themselves one point off if that ends in a draw.

“We are putting pressure on ourselves, as we always want to do better,” said the Coach after their 2-1 win over Cagliari.

Napoli boss Mazzarri taken ill

Napoli Coach Walter Mazzarri might not be on the bench on Sunday after coming down with kidney stones.

The tactician had to miss out on Friday's training session when the pain became too much.

His assistant manager took charge of the build-up to Sunday's game with Cagliari and should again take centre stage today.

It's not clear if Mazzarri will be fit enough to hold his Press conference today or even sit on the bench for tomorrow's Serie A match.
