Juventus are still in the thick of contract negotiations with Weston McKennie but with the summer fast approaching, where do things stand?

The 25-year-old American midfielder has done well since returning to Turin last summer, providing 10 assists in 2603 minutes of action across 32 appearances, being an important part of Massimiliano Allegri’s squad.

Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli is also a fan of McKennie, believing him to be a reliable player who could feature for the club regardless of who is in the dugout next season. As such, contract talks have been ongoing for several weeks now, with his current deal expiring in 2025.

McKennie situation

As reported by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Giuntoli is working carefully to manage Juventus’ accounts and is so trying to negotiate a new contract with McKennie that’ll extend his stay by a year or two whilst keeping his current €2.5m net per season wages.

The player’s entourage were not interested in this idea and returned the offer to sender, making it clear that a more convincing offer would be needed.

At this point, there’s only two real options ahead – a renewal with Juventus before the end of the season or a transfer in the summer.
